Everyone thinks Mack Brown is God's gift to coaching. You take Vince off of Mack's team or you give Tubbs Vince and their results would probably be about the same. You could probably say the same for Tedford.

With parity in college football and super conferences, I doubt a "silver bullet" coach will jump out at us. I want a guy who is a proven winner against top level competition who will run a clean program.

I don't want that kind of coach. And I honestly don't think I'll be disappointed to see TT pass on us. I think we can do better.

I am more or less making the same point that houstontexan made. You can talk yourself out of everyone of these candidates.

If we had Auburn's record aginst those teams at A&M, we would be pumped. People say you have to recruit against Texas, OU, and LSU at A&M. Is it any easier at Auburn? Georgia, Alabama, LSU, all the Florida schools, Tennessee, etc.

Yes Mack got into office at his usual 11am and tripped over a basket left on his doorstep. It contained Vince Young.

He had nothing to do with any of his success.

He simply wore the right color on game day.

thats not true, vince was a (redshirt?) freshman in 2003. Mack has been there since 98. theres no way he didnt recruit vince

This reminds me so much of the Fran new-hire talk that was all over this board -- "He's a better recruiter than Mack and a better game day coach than Stoops." Whoever we get, I hope we are excited about it and I equally hope that we wait for the new coach to beat some in-conference opponents before we start the comparative smack.

Fran's past success is not on par with Tuberville's. Fran was on lesser teams, then went Alabama for a very short time.

Tuberville has averaged 4 losses a season in the SEC since he's been there. The last 4 seasons he's averaged 2 losses a season in the SEC. SEC > Big12. His record against Top 10 and Top 5 opponents is almost flawless. So I see NO similarities with the pursuit of Tuberville and the pursuit of Fran back in the day.

With Fran there was the 'just add water' comments and how he is a 'turnaround specialist'. So there was an assumption he could make something happen. But he was never at an above average program where he had shown consistent success.

Anyone acting as if Tuberville would be the same as hiring Fran in 2002 simply doesn't study history.

How many wins did Fran have against top 25 teams before he was hired by A&M? I'm pretty certain that the answer is fewer than 5.

Tuberville on the other hand is 9 of his last 11 against TOP TEN teams and RAN THE TABLE IN THE SEC.

There is no comparison whatsoever to pre A&M Fran and Tuberville. Fran was the flavor of the month and it was not warranted. Tuberville has proven to be without any doubt one of the 10 best coaches in all of college football.

actually im not sure if ANY Fran coached team had beaten a top 25 team before he got here.
