From another thread.
quote:
1. It conveys the message to the rest of the country and recruits that Tech is our arch rival. I mean, we'll be playing this game in the shadow of the Red River Shootout. It gives Tech credibility and makes us look like little brother to OU and Texas.
2. It WILL NOT help us beat Tech. Period.
3. Like someone said, playing home and home is part of college football. The thought of Tech not having to play us in Kyle and experience that makes me angry.
4. The players hate the idea.
quote:
1. OU and tu are considered on a par, largely because of the RR shootout. Do you want to cement the idea that tceh is our natural equal?
2. Dallas has been done and done well. Holding an "also appearing" game there appears derivative. It helps cement the second tier, little brother, me too image we endure.
3. Home games, especially at Kyle, are a large part of the magic of college football. Drunken carousing in Dallas is a poor substitute for Midnight Yell at Kyle, marching in with the band, yell practice following dunking the yell leaders in the Fish Pond, showing the campus to guests brought for the game and drunken carousing on the Northside.
4. I really don't care about helping the Dallas economy, but I like the idea of taking care of the folks who take care of the students.
5. Football season is big to students, and their participation in the games is more important than making Dallas alums happy. Conversely, students are a larger reason for our success at Kyle than Dallas Ags will ever be in Dallas. We give up a significant advantage.
I don't buy the recruiting argument. Just win baby and all those Dallas recruits will follow us.
Also, we look like cowards if we back away from kicking Tech's rear in Lubbock. Back in my day, we beat them and the trip was uneventful.
Could someone please link or ttt the MANY threads on this? The ones I am citing are on the M&W board. My search function doesn't work.
