Wait, weren't there some saying he would compete for a starting job?

It is hard to show that you can compeat when you have only three reps in practice. Total.

From turning down multiple D-1 Schollies, and over 35 Scholastic full rides, to come to A & M and being promised a preferred look as a walk on to....3 reps????

What does this say about our Coaches? This was one smart, motivated, all District performer who PAID his own way, and he did not get a shot.

Oh, and in the talent department, he was the second fastest linebacker in our timed drills. We don't need not fricking speed at linebacker, now do we.

Nice cut and paste from the Maroon Room at Agtimes.com.

The deal with Chase is indeed weird with the number of reps. But this is also likely a case where internet coaches think they know more than the A&M staff.

We all love "Rudy" stories, but nobody remembers that Rudy didn't get serious PT.

Fact of the matter is that Kennemar played a position that shrunk from 3 spots to 2 spots in the last 4 months. He's competing against 7 scholarship players for those 2 spots and a very highly touted 8th coming the fall. Considering Warren will play every down in the fall, his chances of seeing the field were slim.

I have heard that Chase was not given the opportunity by Darnel. I'm not surprised. Some coaches don't give walk-ons a fare shake. Let us not forget that at one point in time Rich Cody was a skinny walk-on at A&M.

This is sad news. I feel for the guy and hope he has success somewhere else.

This coaching staff is making it hard for me to root for my Alma Matter. Even though I wanted RC gone and thought his time had past he was an easy coach to root for.

Dog....

Why?

Richardson and Featherston are supposed to be better than Chase. Alot better. They are simply better athletes.

Because Chase had a steller high school career does not translate to a steller college career. Especially at Linebacker. Especially.

All these guys are hacked because their favorite walk on with a highlight video got stashed at the end of the bench. This sucks for him, but I would be more concerned if he were penciled in as a heavy rotation guy. The fact that he isn't means we have good college football ready athletes at the position.

Overreaction Friday here on Texags and Agtimes.

we should be praising jesus that a walk on linebacker will not be on the field for the first time in 4 years.

Maybe that the one that made that promise to him no longer coaches here?

Talk about overreaction city - geeze.

He got caught in a changing defense and changing coaches and is not even a scholarship player. It wouldn't even register on the Texags radar except that some posters knew him (or of him) before he walked on. I'm sure he's a good player and even better kid and will do well whereever he ends up.

BTW - he walked out right before the M&W game when players pick who plays. He would've had the perfect opportunity to turn some heads Saturday but for whatever reason chose to quit.

I respect him for giving it a shot and hope that things work out for him.

My frustration is more than just W&L and more than this single situation. I guess it started when a friend of mine who worked at Chili's off Texas told us about her run in with Coach Fran in the late fall of 2002 when he first arrived in College Station. At that time I thought maybe see was over reacting, but then things started happening that proved her point.

As for Chase, I don't care if your a walk-on or on Scholarship. Everyone should get reps when your evaluating what talent you have. And, everyone on the team should be treated with respect. It is my understanding that that is not the case.

This kid is no different than any other player who doesn't make the team. If he could play, he would have gotten the reps but apparently he couldn't earn it. Tough for him but that's life. I don't feel sorry for him but I do wish him the best.

I agree with Mookie..

I feel for the kid but I want the best getting the reps and if he isn't one of them, at least according to our coaches, then that's life.

And it is generally known to those that follow A & M Football, that Chase WAS OFFERRED AN A&M FOOTBALL SCHOLORSHIP by Fran. He chose not to accept it, so that the team could retain an extra scholorship.

I have never heard of a scholorship athelete who was denied practice time to this extent.

One would think that someone forgot to do his homework as to the background of the players in practice.

We wanted him so much we offered a football scholorship, but we did not want him on the practice field. Good Job.

That is why they test in college football. (and the pros) There is not time for everyone to get reps. If walk-ons got a lot of reps in the m&w game, people would be all over the place talking about how the starters need as many reps as possible. I don't know this guy, but the coaches are paid to win. I know that some coaches never give walk-ons a shot, but that is their stupidity and pride working. However, most coaches will at least let everyone who wants a shot test and if they show promise, then they may give them a shot.

Oh Lord...Complaining about losing a walkon...Geez.

Look, I hoped the kid would eventually help us on special teams...But getting on Fran for this is humorous.

nobody is ever happy about not making the team. just ask the guys who get cut from pro teams every season when their careers are on the line. nobody wants to accept they're not good enough and would be disgruntled for awhile.

seems normal to me.

appears like this kid was not given the chance...it is not overreaction to say that given the performance we've seen from this staff and the on-field results to date

talk about continually sucking the air out of the program...jeez

How does this hurt the program? The kid had marginal physical size. Isn't he like 5 foot 9?

Amen. I don't know the kid other than what has been posted on this site. I feel bad that his dream came to an end here but this coaching staff is under the microscope big-time this year and they have to field the best players possible. If they don't feel he was one of them, then so be it.

Ditto Machew. I begin to worry when walkons push for time. I know there are exceptions, but not many.

So, the lesson is: when it doesn't go your way, quit.

Quitting: When hard work takes too much effort.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I pile on the coaces a lot, but a guy quitting because he wasn't going to get PT isn't the coaches fault. Maybe he just isn't suited for the Big XII. I'll take a guy like Leone or Samson Taylor who are willing to change position and work hard at that position any day...

Geez guys you hear one part of a story and all of a sudden our coaches are conspiring to keep a poor walkon HS stud from playing time at A&M...

Any idea how stupid that sounds?

How long do you want to ignore this user?
So let me get this right, hes been here less than 1 year, decides that he isnt going to be a star after having walked on and so quits? Thats not how I was taught to do things!

I was taught that if obstacles are high in your path, you work harder and climb them or fail trying, not quit. Quitters never get what they are after because nothing worth getting is easy to get, its easier for some because of natural gifts, but even those without natural gifts can overcome with a lot of hard work.

Appearantly he didnt want to do the work and was used to stuff falling in his lap. Even if he wasnt given a "fair" chance, whatever that is for a walkon (I really doubt he turned down the scholly like Craig James's kid at Tech) then its his own fault for not giving it more than 100% and showing his salt. Quitting shows a lack of salt.

I have ask many a times about how he has been coming along because I was impressed with his highlight videos. I too thought he might be able to help on special team...I feel for him, but do not blame the coaches..If you think you can play you should never quit..I wish him luck in the future..

Someone just told me he is going to Harvard...

I think it may have had a little more to do with opportunites at Harvard over our coaches... but then again that wouldn't provide enough pot banging fodder, so ignore it.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I repeat, We (Fran) OFFERRED him a football scholorship, along with twenty-five other schools. And he had about 35 full academic scholorships, including Harvard, Yale, Stanford, MIT. He paid his own way to save us (A&M) a scholorship. And he was the fastest linebacker in our own teams drills for speed and quickness.

And Fran told him and his dad that he would bel treated as a scholorship player.

Ahhh... your right..... who wants a player that fast.
