They were decked out in their Adidas SMU football gear. They looked linebacker-sized but way too soft...built more like high school DTs. Looked them up on the roster and they were linemen, some of them starters. One of them was wearing a sleeveless shirt and had mushy arms like Larry the Cable Guy.

Talked to one of their defensive players at a bar a couple weeks ago. Said they were watching tape of Cyrus Gray and mentioned how much of a beast he is.

I am expecting us to beat SMU by 50 points minimum.

Those 2 seasons, they were 15-12 with exacty 3 wins over teams with winning records: Tulsa (2010) and East Carolina and Nevada (2009). We shouldn't take any opponent lightly, but we need to start off the year with a facecrush, and this would be a good team to do that to.

It's a concerning game. First game of the season when we have to try to get the kinks out and the game means a lot more to them than it does to us.

Don't get me wrong. I think we win comfortably, but it wouldn't surprise me a bit if they end up giving us more trouble than they should on paper.

Gray, C-mike, and our OL are going to dominate this game.

If recent history means anything, we cannot afford to take any opponent lightly. Too much is at stake.

I remember Fresno St a few years back when in OT the runner was at the 6" line, tried to put the ball over the goal line, fumbled into and out of the EZ & thus the game was over. If he just runs out of bounds, they have the ball 1st down at the 6" line. That was too close for comfort.

How about FIU last year? As I recall we had to score twice in the 4th Qtr to win 27-20.

How about ArkSt in 08? An inauspicious beginning for the Sherman era.

I believe all teams will take their eye off the ball occasionally. SMU is good enough to win if we take our eye off the ball, but they won't.

Nice thought and a good goal to have, but that doesn't mean we "should blow them out. 20+".

There are about 100 D1-A programs all saying the same thing right now, and they all have fan bases that think their opening lines are off by a TD or three. The overwhelming majority are wrong.
