Opinions on Houston's Steakhouses and price information:

Smith & Wollensky?
Taste of Texas?
Vic & Anthony's?
Ruths Chris?
Pappas?
Flemings?
Mortons?

Prices are all pretty similar on your list, except Taste of Texas may be a little cheaper (or at least has cheaper options on the menu).

I'd rank them V&A, Pappas, Morton's, Flemmings, ToT. Never been to the others. I'd be happy to dine at any of them. I'd add Brenner's to your list, which I'd rank 3rd on mine.

I've never been to Taste of Texas.

You really can't go wrong at any of the others.

Personally, I enjoy the atmosphere a little more at V&A, but I've had a great time at all of them.

Oh and you are missing Capital Grille.

Pappas is the best for atmosphere and intangibles IMO. I still think Ruth's Chris has the best steak. Taste of Texas should never be on a list with places like this. If you put that place, you might as well put Texas Roadhouse and Outback too.

Also, Del Frisco's is very good, but I still prefer Pappas for overall experience and Ruth's Chris for beef.

Steak is good at all. V&A, pappas & del frisco stand above the rest.

HoustonAg mentioned Lynn's. I had never heard of this place before, but several people at my work recently talked about it and have raved about it.

I have been to Taste of Texas several times (when clients are in town, too expensive for me!) and I really like this place a lot. Great food and a fantastic salad bar. Althought I've never done it, it is nice to be able to go and pick out your own cut of steak from the butchers.

Love Pappa's. Morton's is absolutely horrible for being considered a top-notch steak house. It's pathetic. Taste of Texas places below Pappa's, V&A's, Flemmings, etc, but above Texas, Land, and Cattle, Saltgrass, etc.

Check out Perry's Steakhouse in Town Square, Sugarland (SW Houston)

Also I hear great things about Taste of TX.

Lynn's is great. Buffalo Ribeye special.

V&A's and Flemings are also two of my fav's.

I have not been to the Del Friscos here yet, but I have been to the one in Dallas, and had a great experience there as well.

I am just going to throw this out there, but if you have a salad bar, you cannot be compared with the likes of Pappas, V&A, the Palm. There is a big difference in steak places. I am not saying they arent good, I like Roadhouse as much as the nest guy, but its not Pappas. Taste of Texas is like Roadhouse, Saltgrass, TX Land & Cattle.

We ate at Perry's in the Woodlands for Father's day and the Kansas City Strip was really good. I would also suggest Kirby's, in the woodlands as well.

which one?

I just put Taste of Texas because I thought it was pricier than the common steak places such as outback saltgrass and the such.

Didn't know much other than that.

Same here, along with Del Friscos.

It is very good as well. I've been to that one and the one in Vegas on a couple of occasions. DF is definitely one of my favorites.

There are 2 missing from your list.

1) Tommy's on Bay Area Blvd.
2) Killen's in Pearland.

Of the list...i've had Flemings, Sullivan's, and Morton's (and Taste of Texas)...i would say Sullivan's is the best of those three with Fleming's next Morton's last.

The place looks cheesy, but I have seen a lot of cars parked there...anyone know about the steakhouse on Beltway 8 and about Gessner (near the horse track)...has the big statue of Sam Houston out front? Just curious if anyone has been and if it is any good.

Personal favorite is Pappas. As said earlier it has untouchable intangibles and the steaks are excellent.

Bang for buck I'd try Perry's. Few locations now in Houston and I'd seriously consider their "pork chop" if you go. You'll thank me later.

Wife and I went to Brenners on I-10 right outside the beltway and thought it was really good. Was bought out by Landry's a year or so ago so I was suspect it had been "Landry-ized" and may not be that good as described, but it seems they have maintained the original recipes and quality. More "romantic" feel with the nice garden than steak house.

I was trying to keep it inside the loop. It is for a celebration dinner, and also something different. Had Ruth Chris and a few of the others.
