Is this something I can do myself or do I need to have a special tool for it?

Having the right wrench to torque to buffer stock locking nut can be key. I have done it with out it but it's not the easiest thing. You can buy an Armorer's Wrench for $25 bucks and that will help with most upgrades.

Depends on what you are doing. Going from one fixed A1/A2 style stock to another is as simple as removing a screw. Going from a fixed to a collapsible is more involved, but still doable. Rock River has the castle nut wrenches for about $4 (or used to at least).

This link shows the process:

Depending on what you are swapping from and to, you may also need to get a new buffer and recoil spring.

Watch out for the buffer retainer pin and spring...those dudes can FLY!

I'm going from a CMMG Bargin Bin 4 position stock (cheap) to a Command Arms 6 position.

Sounds like I might be better off finding someone that knows what they're doing and has the tools.

I'd be willing to loan you my tool, as I will be in SA for the game. You can ship it back to me or drop it off if you are even in CS or Dallas.

It's really not that hard of a process.

Thanks, but I've got a guy in Houston that I'll probably get to do it for me when I'm ready.

I haven't got the stock yet and probably won't anytime soon.
