Television in the Bathroom

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I was thinking about putting a TV in front of my bathtub, Tony Montana style. Would a regular LCD setup work, or would the surrounding moisture cause problems long-term?

You'll probably have to do some creative wiring after your inspection to get an outlet close enough to your tub.

The best set up that I have seen was actually at my uncle's house. He had it set up where the tv was behind a glass screen, and the televsion was actually in the closet. I am not doing the best job at explaining it but the idea is that the tv is not in the same room, but shows through. In this scenario you don't have to deal with moisture getting to the television, and the remote works just as well.

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy

The best setup I have seen was on the Woodlands custom homes tour about 6-7 years ago. They had a TV mounted behind a two-way mirror so when you turned the tv on, it came on in the middle of the two sinks in a full length mirror. Of course, you have to have external speakers.

We did this in our master bath, but we built a corner cabinet and put a 14" TV behind a door, so when the door is shut your tv is hidden. We can see it from the sink, tub, and shower.

As for your original question, I would think mounting over a shower would be a bigger issue with all the steam. I probably would not mount it directly over a tub, but if you were a couple of feet away, and have a exhaust fan in the bathroom, I would not think it would be a problem.

It will be mounted above a bathtub. The shower is separate and will not be near it. The plan is for it to be mounted on the wall above the bathtub, maybe 2-3 ft above the faucet. I am tempted to just go and buy a $150 LCD TV from Wal*Mart, but if anyone knows if it would be a problem in advance it would be helpful.

What happens when the TV falls in the tub and you call 911... do you call yourself?

One in front of the crapper is handy too

Looking at the bathroom last night, in reality it will be mounted probably 4-5 feet above the faucet. When it gets mounted, I guess I will have to put it at a downward slope to optimize viewing. Being that much higher than the faucet, should there be any problems?

I would put it at ceiling height and mount at 45 degree angle down. This allows you to wire an outlet on the ceiling and keeps water away from the electronics.

You can have your tv in every room now.
