I am looking into buying a new TV. Any suggestions as to brand, plasma vs. lcd and where to get the best deal?

not a flame, but you might get a better response in the nerdery.

Yeah, it's been discussed quite a bit in the nerdery.

I have a 50" Samsung plasma and love it. Plasma generally has better (deeper) blacks and generally handles fast motion better.

LCD is not as heavy and doesn't use as much energy.

Usually, you get more bang for your buck with Plasma.

ONe of the disadvantages of plasma has been burn-in, but the newer generations have almost eliminated that issue. They both have about the same half-life.

I personally think plasma is the better option for most folks.

if your room has a lot of light (windows and what not) go LCD

plasma if u can really regulate the light because you will get a bad glare.... i think LCD is better, esp. now that song and samsung have tv's that run at 120 hurts, which makes the picture look incredible

Any particular reason why you've ruled out DLP?

DLP is easily the best bang for buck, IMO. I can't believe it hasn't been discussed

Zag i may hang on to your information for future use. I plan on purchasing a new tv before the end of the year.

I have a bright room and my plasma does fine.

Also, DLP is good, but it's not as high quality colors and LCD & Plasma. Plus, you have to replace the bulbs every couple thousand hours at $200-$300 a pop. Over the life of your set, you may not save any money with DLP because of bulb burnout.

I just bought a Samsung 61” DLP that has an LED light engine that lasts three time longer than “normal” bulbs. In my shopping, I found DLP to be the most bang for the buck.
From my Lazy Boy it looks FANTASTIC!

I have a really bright room and the panny plasma 77u with the no reflection screen works like a champ. I'm very pleased with the plasma.
