dude was terrific.

I was sitting is Sbisa when I saw the story about his passing in the Batt. I was young and didn't really know who he was or how great a talent he was.

I remember feeling sad reading that story, but not really knowing why.

It was a few years later that I began to listen to his music and discovered what a huge talent the world had lost.

Got me into blues. Got me into guitar. Gone too soon. Way too soon.

I am looking at the ticket stub for the 6/13/90 show at the Woodlands with Joe Cocker. I have it framed with my 4/2/95 Grateful Dead stub from Memphis.

He was simply the best at what he did.

They ran some of his interviews on NPR today; how he had 'interviewed' with Mick/Keith but they didn't sign him to their label b/c they just didn't think that Blues would sell. Ended up collaborating with David Bowie and the rest is history...

WTF do you mean it doesn't matter? I did not listen nor care for that type of music. Therefore, I would not know someone that sings (or whatever he does) coming from that genre of music. It's not hard to put 2 and 2 together. Don't get pissed off at someone who doesn't know who the hell he is. Grow up

I could listen to SRV all day. He's awesome. Speaking of SRV, can some of yall give me some other artists to check out for a newish listener of SRV.

newer artists: derek trucks, kenny wayne shepherd, johnny lang, john mayer (live stuff, not your body is a wonderland)

Tough to beat Stevie.

I was driving north on Texas Ave when I heard the news on the radio - I just stared at the radio - and ran the red light at University and Texas. That's a pretty big intersection but kept on driving. Had I been pulled over, I think the cop would have let me off when I explained I was so shocked by the news.

No one like SRV but for someone who wants to appreciate a current guitar slinger... Chris Duarte is pretty solid. And if you ever get a chance to meet him and talk to him I'm guessing you'll be as impressed with his humility as I was.

****. How did I miss this yesterday? I almost went to that last show at Alpine Valley.

I was in grad school at the time and didn't have any classes that day. I was out in the driveway washing my car and had the radio on. The news came out that a helo had crashed leaving an Eric Clapton concert and that they believed one of the artists was on it. The artists were EC, SRV, Buddy Guy, Jimmie Vaughan, Robert Cray. I like them all, but I prayed "don't let it be Stevie!"

I cried that night talking to my (now ex) wife about it. It still rips my heart out to think that he had cleaned up his act and got sober and then this happened. All the great music he would have made that we'll never hear. We really only had his 4 CDs, plus Live Alive and Family Style, which was in the can. There would have been SOOOO much more.

I know what earlier generations felt when Buddy Holly, Jimi Hendrix, et al, died.

Chris Duarte is a good player (I really like Texas Sugar Strat Magic) that plays one narrow slice of SRV's style/range really well.
