When I left in '82, there were frats sniffing around the gate, but we kept 'em out.

Might as well get use to the frats, they are here to stay.

They will be here long after the Corps has gone the way of the dinosaur. Within 15 years the Corps will be but a memory.

I'm yet to see any proof that frats and sororities are growing that much in the last few years.

From what I've seen in every figure it is always 8-10%, the same as Texas.

The big check writers who support the Corps are also going the way of the dinosaur. Slowly dying off.

And before any of you get to worked up, I hope it does not happen. I'm a greek who thinks very, very highly of the Corps. I have numerous family members who were members.

With the scrutiny the Corps lives under I do not see how they will continue to survive. It is merely my impression that every semester or so the Corps, or one of its members, is in the news for doing something very stupid. These things will add up and be the death of them.

Sadly, the Corps is its on worse enemy.

Davis Gary, then proudly proclaiming themselves "No Frats" headquarters was too steeped in classical maneuver and envelopment tactics to successfully stem the guerilla infiltration tactics of the Greeks. I blame me.

Yes, and if we hold at that, while the corps gets smaller and pisses more former corps members off because it's not like it was in old army days, then we will be the ones writing the big checks. The ol'ags holding the purse strings right now won't live forever.

...and I salute you Jay Omega. Me and my friends used to run all sorts of covert ops to bring down frats. Crashing their parties and taking there beer w/o paying the "door fee", stealing their kegs and taking them to new locations, going to Carney's and w/ NO FRAT shirts and asking if "anyone had something to say to me". I think we were starting to chip away at the walls of exclusion and elitism they were trying to build but who is fighting the good fight now?

In 4 years my fraternity grew from 50-60 members to 100-110.

Pledge class size increased from 3-4 to 15-20.

Actually,

Right now, the number of active Greeks exceeds that of members of the Corps. As Old Army continues to pass away, more and more people who were non-regs or even(perish the thought) fraternity men will take over the reins of this university.

It is not unforseeable that 20 or so years down the road, our Corps is limited to ROTC students, while the Greek system on campus rivals that of tu.

Well aren't you quite the bad ass? That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. I don't know of any greek (except maybe some gung-ho freshman that just joined) that took offense to those shirts. Many, including myself, even owned those shirts. Most just found them quite dumb. You are entitled to your opinion, but wearing that shirt proves nothing.

Sometimes they take a while to grow. Kappa Delta was started when I was there and now they are quite a bit bigger.

No, that was KA. They started fresh and had quite a few members that were also in the Corp.

I just liked beer and so did the guys I partied with. Too bad some GDI kept bogarting it all.

Kappa Delta is also a sorority, and they tend to grow much faster than the avg frat.

and GH, can't say we ever lost a keg. if we ever did see someone try to steal, they'd get their asses beat. and plenty of my non-greek friends woulda done the same, you just don't steal a man's beer. that ain't right no matter the cause.

Sororities are just girl frats. Never even came close to getting my ass kicked and I got your keg. I would just say I'm part of the Keg Distribution Committee or whatever tell them to fork over some bread for a Keg Relocation '96 commemorative sports bottle and load it up and head out. Oh I got your keg and it was sweet.

We never stole kegs. We'd just kidnap fratdaddies, strap them to an electrified bedframe (ala Rambo II) and zot them until they renounced their greekish ways.

It would take several Glade Plug-In's to knock down the smell of sizzling fratdaddies.

I used to roll my 20 sided die to see what type of torture they would get next.
