Big Marv remains at the top, but overall there have been significant changes to the summer update of the initial American-Statesman's Fabulous 55 in April.

Following impressive showings at The Opening last week in Oregon, Plano East linebacker Anthony Hines and Bellaire Episcopal offensive tackle Walker Little skyrocketed up our chart to close in on Little's teammate, defensive tackle Marvin Wilson, who retained his top spot after winning MVP honors for The Opening's top defensive lineman.

Displaying impressive speed and length, Hines advanced six spots to No. 2 and showed why he's the nation's top-ranked inside linebacker, per 247 Sports' composite rankings. Little made an even bigger push, improving 12 spots to No. 3 after he made a mockery of the country's premier pass-rushers.

Heading into this season, Texas is in contention, if not the leader, for Wilson, Hines and Little, and will not go down quietly for La Grange running back J.K. Dobbins, an Ohio State commitment who comes in at No. 4 for the second straight edition. The Horns are also in the mix for fifth-ranked Kennedale linebacker Baron Browning, who was the victim of Hines' and Little's jumps and fell off of his No. 2 perch.

There's also a new top quarterback. Mesquite Horn's Chris Robison an Oklahoma commitment jumped five spots to No. 7 and along the way passed Texas pledge Sam Ehlinger, the Westlake quarterback who slid two spots to No. 12. Robison and Ehlinger are by far the state's top two passers, a safe distance ahead of TCU commit Shawn Robinson (DeSoto) at No. 28.

Those improving the most were Oklahoma pledges Robert Barnes, a safety from Southlake Carroll who shot up from No. 38 to 14, and Waxahachie's Jalen Reagor, who is now the state's top-ranked receiver after moving from No. 32 to 16.

The biggest drop belongs to that of another OU commit, Cedar Hill receiver Charleston Rambo, who fell 16 spots to No. 37.

Incoming and outgoing transfers shook up the list. Safety Grant Delpit, ranked No. 22 in April, was removed from consideration after he announced he'll be leaving Houston Lamar to play his senior season at IMG Academy in Florida. Had he stayed in Texas, Delpit would've likely cracked our top 10 because he was that impressive at The Opening.

Added to the rankings was offensive tackle Chuck Filiaga, an Aledo import from California with offers from all of the top west coast schools. At No. 20, Filiaga is the highest-ranked player among the six newcomers. Round Rock defensive tackle James Lynch entered the chart at No. 49.

Sorry to bring up sips but what was the bad news they were expecting, recruiting wise a few weeks ago? Did someone decommit? I don't follow them but I read it on an Ag board and any sip bad news is great news!

Really hoping to land Wilson, Hines and Okudah. Of course I know it is far fetched to land even one of these guys. We need a top flight LB like Hines in a bad way.

So the sips have 7 commits.....and all 7 are on the list.

The Aggies have 18 commits, 12 from the state of texas....and 3 make the list.

OMG <shocked face>

They're going to have a lot higher rated class than us unless a lot of our guys get bumps in the rankings or we win 10 games (which I think is very possible.)

Winning in February ( with all the ranking pumps per Ketch and Burton) and winning in November are two different things.

The other Texas player thought to be a likely decommit is Xavier Newman, an OL. Because of the late Baylor transfers, I've read that Texas may only take two OL this year.

Tennison is a big loss but it's hard to blame him for jumping to Alabama as Texas changes offenses (again).

Knowing how Texas closed the past couple years, I wouldn't look into these rankings just yet.

1) no, the sips will not finish with a class higher rates than us. Why? They have limited schollies for '17, as well they aren't in nearly as good of shape to pick up top commits down the road. Especially after chollie's 5-7 win season.

2) as is already the case nationally, some commits just acquired Some star power. I have a post not too long ago that I made that showed the amount of early 3*'s turned 4*s in our most recent class. I think just on the defensive side of the ball, 50% of our commits bumped up to a 4* before signing day.

We have goo evaluators on staff and plenty of room. Just need to win 9+ this season and continue the momentum.

Kary Vincent Jr is committing tonight at 7. Supposedly he's headed to LSU.

It's rough losing out on highly rated legacies, especially when they play DB and go to a school we have to play every year.

Saw a stat that over 50% of the guys that committed to play for Strong both at UL and at Austin do so after the regular season is over.

It takes time for the bagman to make all the rounds and then wait for the checks to clear and the titles to arrive for the f-250's.

Verbals aren't worth the paper they're written on.

The are pretty close.

I would much rather have that kind of paper than the kind of blank paper we have.

Which kind of paper would you rather have?

A huge majority of kids don't commit then decommit

And the ones that do typically do it when there are some coaching changes either their position or head.

Verbals absolultely mean something. Kevin Sumlin will sign a minimum of 16 of the 19 guys we have committed now, probably more and maybe even all 19. Now go look at any 19 random players around the country we are after. We might get 0 or 1.
