Abstract

Many unknowns exist about human immune responses to the SARS-CoV-2 virus. SARS-CoV-2 reactive CD4+ T cells have been reported in unexposed individuals, suggesting pre-existing cross-reactive T cell memory in 20-50% of people. However, the source of those T cells has been speculative. Using human blood samples derived before the SARS-CoV-2 virus was discovered in 2019, we mapped 142 T cell epitopes across the SARS-CoV-2 genome to facilitate precise interrogation of the SARS-CoV-2-specific CD4+ T cell repertoire. We demonstrate a range of pre-existing memory CD4+ T cells that are cross-reactive with comparable affinity to SARS-CoV-2 and the common cold coronaviruses HCoV-OC43, HCoV-229E, HCoV-NL63, or HCoV-HKU1. Thus, variegated T cell memory to coronaviruses that cause the common cold may underlie at least some of the extensive heterogeneity observed in COVID-19 disease.

Great! Create a common cold bio weapon and release it into our communities.

Encouraging information. Read through it and did notice this statement at the end:
Quote:

Based on these data, it is plausible to hypothesize that pre-existing cross-reactive HCoV CD4+ T cell memory in some donors could be a contributing factor to variations in COVID-19 patient disease outcomes, but this is at present highly speculative

Time to have common cold parties.

Wouldn't this be huge news if found to be true?

Well the flip side is that most COVID fatalities seem to be linked to an overactive immune response.

So like everything else with this disease, it's a big fat maybe.

All the biopharm companies currently working on a vaccine would squash these "rumors" like a bug. Money talks, and something as simple as this would be a huge embarrassment for them, costing billions.

Active Immune Response when first exposed to the bug= good.
Overactive immune response only after the virus has replicated all through your body= cytokine storm= bad.

Right. And we've got no idea which of those these T cells may be doing.

I tend to think it probably accounts for the large amounts of asymptomatic cases. But we also don't have a great understanding of why some people get really sick and die.

Vaccine induced enhancement is a thing, and we know so little about COVID at this point it's hard to rule anything out.

Oh, no doubt. Wouldn't surprise me at all. We see ADE in Feline Coronavavirus manifest as Feline Infectious Peritonitis...so if one Coronavirus can do it...

So...daycare workers immune? And germophones who've always washed their hands and never gotten sick are gonna die? Seems about right.
