Leo was 55.. You may be thinking of somebody else.

That is sad news.
Leo worked on all fields at Texas A&M but I think many would associate him with Aggie Baseball.
As long as I have been attending Aggie baseball games at Olsen.. Since the mid 80's Leo has been a part of it.

I Rember back in the day he would wear a A&M cage pullover and baseball pants.
There was a pie eating contest at home plate between a DH in early 90's.. Maybe '92 and one of the contestants starts throwing up and Leo holds a bag for him to throw up in then hands the guy the bag.
I remember him spraying down the student section with the hose between games during the '99 regional.

Never had the privelidge to meet the man myself but know many who did know him.
Without question he will be missed.
A part of Aggie baseball passed away along with him.
RIP

Longtime A&M field manager Goertz will be missed

Texas A&M is sorely going to miss athletics field manager Leo Goertz, who passed away Monday. He was maybe the best at what he does, and a friend to all, said those who knew him.

"When you turn on the football game and see Kyle Field, whether you're living in New York City or somewhere else, boom, instantly your thoughts on the university is created by the appearance of the field," said former Aggie baseball coach Mark Johnson. "And it was the same thing with Olsen Field, and Leo always gave us a good name. People don't realize how important that is."

The world lost a great Aggie yesterday. I had the privilege of working with Leo for 3 years and I am thankful for every day I got to be a part of his crew. Leo was a great mentor and great leader! So many good times and great stories. Thank you Leo for all you've done for A&M and all of us! Rest in Peace.
