I posted this on twitter yesterday because it was 9 days until the season started, but thought some of y'all without twitter might enjoy it! This is a picture from the 1970 Aggieland yearbook of my dad (#9) hitting a HR against Baylor.

Can't wait for the season to start!! Gig 'Em

I hit in the Aggie batting order in 1968 in the spot right behind him, knew him well, good hitter, even better guy.

Overall awesome thread! Thanks to OP and to Bob Arnold. Now I'll step back and let it continue. Oh, but it would be Kyle Magic and not Olsen Magic.

Cactus Jack and Bob Arnold, thanks for the comments! It's cool to hear from former teammates of my dad. I'll make sure he knows y'all remember him

We need those road unis plus get rid of high socks. I like ruffle at the bottom, helps cover my thin ankles.

I think that is some of the married housing in the background.

I thought that was some faculty housing. It's before my time too, but I've been told that before.

Yes, it was still there when I started school in the mid-80s.

That's what SWC baseball looked like, for the most part, from the 70s up until near the very end--basically temporary bleachers surrounding a chain link backstop.

High stirrup socks lets the ump see where your knees are and made us short guys look taller.
Roomie of Cactus Jack in '68.

Bob Long is someone I could never forget. One of the benefits of playing at A&M was the privilege of developing life-long friends -- two of whom have chimed in on this thread! Thank you for your kind words!

Bevo and Cactus Jack played on the 1968 Aggie baseball team, which was special,

Had a .750 winning percentage (21-7), had 4 guys that are in Aggie Athletic Hall of Fame (Long, Elmendorf, Staples, Rau), plus HOF Coach Tom Chandler.

I hated those high stirrups, they accentuated my ultra-skinny ankles!

Please, no comment, Easy.

If y'all haven't checked this out already, take a look at the Cushing Library Archives. Great old pictures of the school and students and sports teams. Word of warning though: be ready to spend hours looking through it because you'll fall down that rabbit hole in a hurry.

Does anyone know where you can find old ATM box scores? A friend of mine claims to have been the first SWC pitcher to beat ATM in the '89 season, at ATM. I'm pretty sure ATM didn't play TCU at Olsen in '89 because I went to every home game. Anyway, I just wanted to see if he had the year or the location wrong. Not to argue, just for my own edification.
