Even leaving his Alma Mater

I remember meeting his mom the first time Will played at Olsen... I was still sitting upstairs back then. He is from Conroe and wanted to play at A&M. IIRC, we offered him a 1/4 scholarship and the Huskers gave him half. I know NU made him a better offer.

Surprised this hasn't gotten more comment

This looks like a great hire

Perhaps just what the program needs

.@Aggie_Baseball hired @Husker_Baseball top assistant Will Bolt as its newest assistant coach. No surprise. Great, great hire.

Bolt was pretty much going to be #TAMU's guy throughout the process, but Childress needed to return from Team USA. He returns close to home.

I was also told that there was no other job (other than head coach) Will Bolt would've left #Nebraska for but #TAMU. Close to family is big

Hopefully he won't try to completely change everybody's swing mechanics. I'll say this...he's inheriting a couple of guys who can hit the ball a long, long way.

Welcome home Will!!! Now let's win the SEC and get back to Omaha

He's also inheriting a new baseball. Interesting to see what kind of impact that will have.

as an aside...how many former Nebraska coaches or players have come to or come thru the A&M baseball program since 2006?

Childress, Sawyers, Seely, Bolt...I guess that's 4. Ultimately it started with Byrne

About Nebraska...

Have we decided that DVH was responsible for their success? They went from nothing to loaded with talent in a remarkably short time.

Ken Harvey had the best combination of power and average that I've ever seen in college baseball. He hit a line drive home run in the 1999 Big 12 tournament against us. Even with massive top spin, the ball went well over 400'. It had so much top spin I saw it accelerate up the CF berm.

Harvey's 1999 stats:
107 hits in 224 ABs --> that's a .478 average!
23 HRs .862 slugging

Oh, and Shane Komine made us his b**ch like no other starting pitcher I can remember. I can't imagine what our stats against him were. Maybe I'll look it up.

Now they're back to nothing and in the Big Ten, which assures that they'll stay irrelevant. They do have a *beautiful* park to remember the glory days by though.

Continuing the tangent, I looked up Komine's stats against us.

------------------------------
April 22, 1999 - At Olsen Field
9.2 innings, 2 earned runs in a 3-2 loss

May 22, 1999 - Big 12 tournament
0.1 innings, 0 earned runs, and a save

April 20, 2000 - My only road trip to Lincoln was for this debacle
7 innings, 2 earned runs. We were run-ruled, and this was a complete game.

Final Box:
R H E
-------------
A&M - 2 2 5
NU - 16 17 0

April 26, 2001 - At Olsen Field
9 innings, 4 earned runs, and a win

March 14, 2002 - At NU (Ags first trip to their new stadium)
8 innings, 0 earned runs, and a win

Totals:
Komine 3-1 against the Ags with one save
ERA - 2.12

Congratulations and a big Howdy to Coach Bolt returning to Aggieland! I'm sure he will have a positive impact on our offense. I hope his past connections to RC won't prevent him from implementing his vision for our offense!
Very best wishes to he and his family as they begin this return to Aggieland. Woof Woof

The release from the 12th Man Foundation.

quote:
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M Baseball has named former University of Nebraska player and assistant coach Will Bolt to the staff, Aggie Head Coach Rob Childress announced on Thursday. Bolt previously served a two-year stint as a volunteer assistant coach at Texas A&M in 2006-07.

Bolt’s primary functions will include coordinating the offensive game, mentoring the infielders and serving as third base coach.

“We are making a great addition to our coaching staff,” Childress said. “He has done great things on the coaching track and has been a winner and built an outstanding resume at every stop he has made.

Isn't it a bit odd for this to come from them rather than the Athletic Department?
