We've had the same set of knives for 10 years, got them as a wedding present, and we have not taken very good care of them. I've decided I am going to ask my MIL for a new set of kitchen knives for Christmas. I cook frequently but pretty must grab whatever knife is closest. So who makes quality kitchen knife sets that don't cost an arm and a leg that I can tell my MIL to buy?

Just get a chef knife from Global.

or Chicago Cutlery if Global is too pricey.

Go to Ebay - vintage Chicago Cutlery. Try to find a set of knives with numbers like 41S,42S,44S, for chefs knives.
60S. 62S, etc for utility knives. 104S, 102S, 100S for paring knives. These knives are over 50 years old and as sharp as ever. You will only need to dress the blade with the the steel at 42.5 degree angle ( that is how they were hollow ground when they were new). I have used these in my kitchen for years. ou should be able to buy a set under $100 + shipping.

Victorinox/Forschner are the best knives for the money for sure.
