Looking for some insight here from everyone. If you were building a shop, what would you want to consider?

Potential uses
Lighting
Storage
Flooring
A/C (mini-split vs window, etc)
Electrical
Internet

If you could re-build your garage or shop, what would you put in it?

Air compressor lines routed throughout the shop with plug ins in multiple places, including outside.

Dust collection system.

If you have big machines, make sure you put plenty of 220V outlets in the shop. AC is king if you are in Texas.

This would be a 40' x 50'

Hydraulic car lift
Tons of LED lights
Mezzanine storage + electric winch
Epoxy floor coating
Full A/C & heat (window units barely do the job)
Lots of outlets
Internet
Large shop sink
Toilet
Separate area for welding/paint/sandblasting with exhaust
More beer

Bathroom, potential boot wash Station (think shower basin with spray hose, can also double as a dog was Station). May even try to find a way to put in a shop vac system like they do whole home vacuum systems.

Water heater. 3 times the electrical outlets you think you need. Separate electrical circuits for a welder, table saws, air compressor and any other large equipment.

TV
Recliner
Fridge
Microwave

I dream about a shop several times a week.

To date im up to at least a 40x100. Need 3 phase to run the huuge air compressor, welder, 2 a/c package units. 4-20' bays. 1 18,000 lb two post and a 25,000 four post lift. Seems totally reasonable to me

Good thread, I'm in the process of getting the permit so I can build shop myself, although mine is only going to be 18x36.

I am putting 110 outlets every five feet, 6 220 outlets, 6 air outlets. I'll also have 8 4ft led lights and fans all around the shop. I'm running a circuit for ac in the future.

Per my husbands suggestion, a wench from ceiling over a drain with water nearby. Great for cleaning deer.

-install a half bath if you have room. If plumbing is an issue use a macerating toilet. At a minimum instal a slop sink

-kegerator

-60" tv w/surround

Well it depends on what you're going to use it for. If woodworking then duct work for a dust collection system as well as an air cleaner mounted to the ceiling. If machine work then a compressed air system. My dad's neighbor just built a barn shop and he's more of a machinist than wood worker, but he does have an I-beam with hoist running the length og his shop that can lift 1 ton. A seperate office area with door for PC, chairs table, book shelves etc...so it can remain isolated from dust.

Shop 1/2 bath with a ****ter and a urnial. And you need to lay out what tools will go where and make sure you have adequate power and dust collection drops. Then add more 110 for lights etc... lastly, lots of storage. Cabinets, TV, music etc....

My wench is happy to cook the venison but she's never been interested in helping gut the deer with me!
