I didn't do a progress post on this, but after posting some images on the Tine board for someone asking about a contractor, I decided I'd put a post here to share.
We purchased a home in Meyerland section 8 a couple months after the flood. Our home did not flood (and has never flooded). Our street and the one behind us were the only two spared in our area of Meyerland.
This is the second home we've owned with a similar situation: family owned it from day one and took a lot of pride in maintaining the home. The owner of this home was a real estate agent and owned a furniture store and some of the neighbors that knew him well said he would always have people over (parties) to their home to show off furniture and schmooze to get clients. One neighbor told me he was known as Mr. Meyerland because he was an agent on the majority of transactions during the 70s and early 80s in the area. He was Jewish which probably played a big role in that as well. He included the original plans for the house from the builder which helped us know exactly what had been changed over the years.
The renovation is phase 1 of a total interior/exterior renovation. We've still got 3 bathrooms, trim and flooring upstairs, and exterior to renovate, but we'll need a break. We did a whole home renovation of our previous home in Willow Meadows, and have sort of become addicts to renovating...
Feel free to ask questions if you have them. This renovation included rewiring, sheetrock repair/replace, millwork, trim carpentry, and a down to the studs renovation of the kitchen/den that included taking 3 walls out.
