Pelican is in Newport Beach, not Dana Point...and yes very expensive but totally awesome if you can afford it.

I'd also suggest Arroyo Trabuco - very close to Ladera and also very nice track that won't break the bank.

yes; they're 'bout 15 minutes apart...both The St Regis Monarch Beach Golf Resort in Dana Point & Pelican Hill in Newport Beach are great venues & courses...I personally prefer Pelican Hill
