Thinking about planning a golf trip to Albuquerque. Does anyone have any experience with courses or places to stay out there? Tentatively I think we are going to play the Hyatt course and the NMU championship course but I need to find a third course in the area to play.

Check out "The Santa Fe Golf Trail" , Paa-ko , Cochiti , great golf course, beautiful scenery , casino very close.
The NMU course is outstanding , very challenging and right by the airport if I remember right.

You can't find a better golf trip. Be sure and adjust your club selection in the higher elevation , your irons will fly probably 1 to 2 clubs further.

Black Mesa, just north of Santa Fe, is a great course too.

UNM course is really good when you think of a college/municipal course in the middle of town, but near as good as some of the others.
Pa Ko Ridge is one of my favorite courses ever - 27 holes and usually possible to play all of them. It's at 7000 fft so be ready for the weather. Black Mesa, north of Santa Fe is worth the drive. On an Indian reservation, no cart paths, spent less than $2 million to build it. Very dramatic.
Twin Warriors at the Hyatt Tamaya is really good as well. I haven't played the Sandia course.

Stay at the Hyatt Tamaya and play the 3 I listed and you will be really happy.

Got back from the Albuquerque trip yesterday. Our group played Sandia, Santa Ana, Twin Warriors, and the UNM Championship course and stayed at the Tamaya Hyatt. I can't say enough good things about the trip. The golf was incredible, with Sandia being the stand out and the UNM course was an absurd value. Along with the courses being in incredible shape, the views from the courses were beautiful. Playing golf at altitude is just as awesome as I hoped it would be, golf in muggy sea level Houston is going to be such a let down.

We also randomly sat next to the mayor of Albuquerque (Richard Berry) on the flight back. He is apparently trying to get his son into Texas A&M and his son really wants to be in the corp. Seemed like a pretty good dude.

TLDR: Albuquerque is an awesome place for a golf trip, Mayor of Albuquerque wants to get his son into the corp

Fathergoose , I am really glad to see that you loved that UNM course , I knew you would. New Mexico is just a great state.

Was the UNM course close to the airport as I mentioned in a earlier post ?

Tommee -- The UNM course literally could not have been any closer to the airport. The back tees on some of the holes were basically in the airport parking lots. I think I could have put a drive into the terminal from #7.

That's what I thought I remembered but it's been 20 years. We played golf and had a few hours to kill before our flight , so we bought a 12 pack of cold beer and hit putts for a while. Great place.
