How any defensive player wants to go there is beyond me. They are an absolute fraud. They got pantsed when they went to the playoff, and were only there because good teams were regularly beating each other to get two losses. The sad thing is they are probably the best candidate to win that **** stain of a conference.

some of it goes back to recruiting --- specifically getting 4 & 5-star defensive players from Texas. OU's 2013 & 2014 classes had hardly any defensive bluechips from the lone star state. OU is paying dearly for that now

Wait! I have been repeatedly assured that Texas high schools don't provide that much defensive talent because of the spread offenses??

Statistically, that's pretty much true. Actually, 7 on 7 competition is at the root cause. The best CFB defenses are not "molded from" Texas HS players with the exception of CB's & Safetys. BDF is a prime example. The best players/talent have gravitated towards the offense and thus the defense has suffered. Now IF you want QB's and WR's, recruit Texas.

the number of super bluechips on the defensive side of the ball is down.

15 to 20 years ago...the state produced 10 to 15 super bluechip defensive players per season.

nowadays...it's maybe 5 to 7 super bluechips on defense
