And yet an illiterate with a mediocre track record as a HC who rode coattails as an assistant is their HC. Makes perfect sense.

To be fair, Strong can read. He's not illiterate.

He's inarticulate. Can't speak publicly very well at all.

Agree 100% with aggiehawg. The man has issues as a public speaker, but he is educated, literate, and intelligent. And when our little brother sip fires him for having mediocre teams, he'll walk away with at minimum $25mil in pretax dollars. Always pleased to see people like Manny, Strong, and sip basketball coach Rick Barnes fleece sip while never delivering.

3 more seasons and he's gone. Last season will be 5-7 or 4-8. A&M will have the national title the year he leaves. KlanWhorns are racial at their core and have small snubby stunted devil horns under their hair per an Austin barber I talked to. Urologist buddy says they have micro-peens as well. A pediatrian claims few are breast fed as their mothers don't bond with them. Psychologically there are messed up in a half-dozen ways. It's really sad.

To call it the number one job in America when so man high profile coaches have passed up large sums of money to go there is completely ridiculous.

Sure, if you completely ignore all the political baggage, and glad handing, and competition with both in state and border state schools, the sips job looks real good on paper.

But this isn't 1970 anymore.

Maybe in comparison to Manhattan Kansas... (Which I've never been too, bit I've always pictured as inhabited by 4000 Bill Snyder cloans) or des Moines (or whichever crappy village in Iowa has the honor of being home to isu)

Yet they couldn't get saban from Alabama, even after throwing ten million dollars at him. They couldn't get harbaugh out of SF, yet just a year later he heads off to the frozen tundra of meatchicken for the luxury of getting corn holed annually by urban Meyer. Neither could they get Mora out of UCLA who laughed at the thought of coaching at Texas. Meanwhile gruden is still waiting for racist red mccombs to call him back and explain why they hired an offensive coordinator for the head job. Yeah it's the top job alright, that nobody that was any good wanted.

After reading that article; Did they really rank tu #1 for the city it's in, a brisket restaurant, an announcement of renovations 5-10 years from now, BDF lackeys agreeing they're #1, and being in the State of Texas?

By those standards, UofH is a shoe-in for the PAC.

Do you take yours off and read it with actual objectivity? It's obvious tgat the premises on which it's based are flawed.

These lists are a circular product of themselves. They cite the same tired, bull**** reasons for defining what constitutes a great job and generate the same answers even though they're outdated. Citing Austin and its "amenities" is completely stupid, first of all. These guys are football coaches, not lawyers or bankers. It's been proven time and time again that the city isn't what attracts elite players-winning does. Kids don't really care and neither do the coaches. In fact, it's less attractive because for assistants it means they have to pay out the ass for a decent place close to work where they are 90 hours a week or travel a long way every day. They aren't cruising fine eateries and boating on Lake Travis. LSU, Georgia, Bama are all better jobs than Texas, and so are we. The local talent pool is better in Ga, La, and the Southeast, and they don't have nearly the in state competition. Texas' talent pool is a myth. The truth is that offensively it's good but defensively its very average at best. The best talent in the country by far is in the Southeast. Facilities, commitment to winning, support, attention (national TV opportunities, etc) and schedule ( conference affiliation) are what matter today. History ( especially old history) matters less and less to these kids today. They don't give a ****. The proof is in the pudding, and the equation isn't the same as it was a decade ago. Who has Texas been able to hire on their staff lately? Anyone elite? No. If they were the best job in America, why the **** are they hiring high school coaches with no college experience? Why are we hiring John Chavis? Again, these lists are a decade behind reality in their reasoning. The shift of conferences has increased their importance, and the consequences are real.

To be fair the article mentions if every head coaching job was available Texas would be tops.

Texas is down and has been but the resources are still there.

Huh? That doesn't change anything. Whether every single job was open for a coach to pick or only it was open, if it's the top job, then any coach at a post below it would want to make the move. It's very obvious that didn't happen.

How can you honestly argue that Texas is a better job than Alabama, LSU, Georgia, or Florida? Every one of those jobs has more talent in the surrounding area than Texas does, has less in-state competition, have better facilities, better gameday atmospheres and play a MUCH MUCH better scheduler with more games on major national tv. Texas "having the money" to build more facilities-even if it were true-doesn't matter if they don't have them. And I don't think it's true at all. The idea that Texas has an unlimited budget is a myth. The AD is way over-extended and frankly, the numbers they post have always had questions marks around them. There's no "GAAP" system of anything like that governing the way college athletic departments report these numbers, so that makes the numbers less credible for a comparison because they aren't direct comparisons. And even IF all the numbers were comparable and sourced the same, there's a level of diminishing returns when it comes to it. At a certain point, having more means less and less in terms of a competitive advantage.

There's a line in Moneyball that makes perfect sense in this situation. "If he's a good hitter, why doesn't he hit good?"

I think most will agree that the state of Texas itself is a big deal. The problem is some morons are subconsciously biased believing that because tu is the "university of" that by itself makes it a big deal too.

This reminds me of valuing a private company, you can use any metrics you like and state all the reasons for a particular valuation but in reality that company is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

I see the recent coach search as exactly that scenario, there were so many top coaches that were approached or given the opportunity to coach but ultimately they wound up with a head coach from a mid tier team. To me this speaks that the market has spoken, if tu was the number 1 job, Nick Saban would have jumped at the opportunity, but he didn't and supposedly they tried money whip him with the reported $100 Million / 10 years and he still didn't take it.

As much fun as it was to watch, the last horn coaching search was really an anomaly.

Mack Brown wasn't about to go gently into the quiet night. He was politicking far and wide among the football coaching community at a time when he was also head of the coaching association. He was calling into radio shows, including Brando and Finebaum claiming Saban was his close friend and wouldn't do that to him, etc. But who can really know what Mack was saying in private to his fellow coaches about the pains in the azz that being HC at tu involves??

Throw in a new AD in Patterson, unfamiliar with all of the players involved with tu internal politics, and finally that particular season's coaching carousel. Just a year or two removed from very active seasons with a ton of coaching changes, most of the name HCs were still early in their new deals.

HCs have taken note of the bad rep that people like Petrino, Kiffin and Graham have gotten for too frequent job hopping. Besides, for younger coaches, that job will come around again. The days of a decade+ long coaching tenure at one stop are waning for major programs.

Almost every big time program has those same resources.

The days of money whipping a name coach from a big time program are over because those guys are making a lot of money already and are comfortable. You need a weird situation like Harbaugh where a college team is going to pay him more than any NFL team will and that college team happens to be his alma mater.
