I know a lot of you were appreciative and amazed over the attendance numbers I previously posted for the '90s which blew away the myth of the "diehard loyal" Astros fan compared to the "bandwagon" Rangers fan. So I dug a little deeper and what I'm about to present may just shock you even more.
For the past 30 years the Texas Rangers have had a higher average per game attendance than the Astros.
Avg/G (1984-2013)
Rangers 29,243
Astros 26,524
What's even more shocking are the attendance differences during winning and losing seasons.
Avg Attendance during winning seasons (1984-2013)
Rangers 31,329
Astros 26,971
Avg Attendance during losing seasons (1984-2013_
Rangers 27,156
Astros 22,516
For the past 30 years, the Astros have had 19.79% more fans in attendance during winning seasons than losing seasons compared to 15.37% for the Rangers. Thus, proving that Astros fans are the true bandwagon fans showing up more when they win. It is a proven undeniable fact. And despite the Rangers having far more losing seasons than the Astros for 30 years, their fans showed up more overall. Cold. Hard. Fact.
