After a long and in depth investigation, Loyola decided to part ways with head coach Sheryl Swoopes.

The Chicago Sun Times reported the news and this statement from the university:

"Sheryl Swoopes is no longer serving as the women's basketball coach at Loyola University Chicago," athletic director Steve Watson said in a statement. "A search for her replacement will begin immediately. Loyola thanks Sheryl for her service to the women's basketball program."

What caused that?

Tech fan?

I saw an article (don't know where/when) which stated she was a pretty demanding coach and the players didn't like it.

Something like 10 out of 12 players asked to transfer/be released from their scholarships so the university launched an investigation to figure out what was going on.

No big deal. Some great players just aren't cut out to be coaches while some of the best coaches were pretty average players. I guess it would have been nice if it worked out for Swopes, but bad record and bad treatment of players showed she wasn't going to be a good coach.

Amazing how many times you see this story play out. Outstanding former player (or legacy in the case of Tyler Summitt) thrown into a head coaching gig without paying his/her dues in the coaching world. Exceptions to the rule of course exist (including Pat), but it usually ends up poorly it seems to me.
