UNCASVILLE, Conn. (May 4, 2016)
The Atlanta Dream saw a total of 14 players register points in a 74-67 setback vs. San Antonio in the preseason opener for both teams on Wednesday evening at Mohegan Sun Arena.

The game was tight throughout and featured a total of seven ties and 19 lead changes before San Antonio pieced together an 11-0 run in the opening five minutes of the fourth quarter to turn a 53-50 Atlanta lead into a 61-53 deficit for the Dream.

Atlanta made an effort to battle back in the final minutes of regulation as it trimmed the deficit to 69-65 with 25.9 seconds left in the fourth quarter but were outscored 5-2 over the final minute.

The Dream led by as many as six in the contest at 24-18 with 6:18 left in the second quarter. Atlanta last led at 53-52 with 8:56 remaining in the final quarter.

Elizabeth Williams paced Atlanta in the post as she finished with nine points and 10 rebounds in her first action for the Dream after being acquired in an offseason trade. Carla Cortijo laid claim in the battle for the starting point guard slot with four points, six rebounds and three assists in 15:52 of game action.

Meighan Simmons led all Dream players with 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting, including a 2-for-4 clip from 3-point range.

Dearica Hamby helped guide San Antonio to the seven-point victory with a game-high 18 points while adding seven rebounds. Sydney Colson scored 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting to round out the game's double-figure scorers.

Atlanta played the contest without three starters from last season's squad as Angel McCoughtry, Sancho Lyttle and Damiris Dantas did not make the trip as they each wrap up their overseas and international commitments.

The Dream continues preseason action on Thursday, May 5 when they take on reigning WNBA most valuable player Elena Delle Donne and the Chicago Sky in a 5 p.m. ET tip at Mohegan Sun.
