I've seen this mentioned here a few times over the years, just wanted to get some more specific recommendations.
2 adults and a 3 year old.
Do I want the private room, regular cabin seats, just hang out in the lounge?
What's the best way to go?

I've never taken Amtrak so I really don't even know what questions to ask.

The only tip I have is to be seated on the left (west) side of the train for the best views. Actually, if you do business class you get pre boarding and also go through customs first.

WE did several years ago. Agree with the above post as to being on the left. Beautiful views. Cheap too.
