Free market and capitalism. They can charge whatever the hell they want. Either don't go or pay up. Simple as that. Others are willing to pay it obviously.

Unless you made a road trip of Vegas don't know why you'd need a car anyway. Should be able to walk most of it and when you wana go down town just cab it.

Sure, they can do whatever they want. Doesn't make it a good business decision, though. I get the sense they do this primarily because the know they can get away with it due to their monopoly of the strip.

Most people don't drive, but there are still a fair number who do (I used to drive from southern california yearly for a conference). And there are a significant number who drive from one casino to another and park in their garage specifically to spend money at that casino or eat at a restaurant in their hotel. You make them pay just for the privilege of walking inside (which is what it ends up indirectly being) will definitely have an effect. The only advantage MGM has right now is that they've gobbled up most of the strip by now, which limits consumer options.

From my perspective, this will definitely effect where I stay if I were to ever drive to vegas again.

But the most likely end result will be the same as what I see here in san francisco. People complain about increased prices and added fees/taxes in every part of their lives for a few days, and then just accept the change, resigned to it.

I've taken advantage of the drinks playing video poker on any a trip to Vegas. And sorry to see it going away.

But the people that will stop going because of this aren't going to put any dent in the profits. So I don't see this as a money loser for the casinos

The early adopters will suffer on TripAdvisor, which has a much larger effect than most think. Caesars almost closed a tower that runs about 95% occupancy simply because it was pulling down their TA ranking too much.

I'd expect to see rapid adoption by every chain casino on the strip.

I gave only been to Vegas once and only had one evening with severe alcohol impairment.

I'm going to guess if not comping drinks runs off all their customers they have bigger problems. I was never a big drinker and now I can't drink so not a big deal when I get to go back.

Making you pay for parking seems fairly normal for upscale hotels. I know a several in major cities that I have paid $35-40 to park and valet was the only option. So $10 for self park seems reasonable.

I honestly think it will come down to supply/demand. It they cut drinks and people stop coming they will rethink their ways.

One of my favorite things to do before dinner or during a game I want to watch, is throw a $100 in a video poker machine and get a good buzz going.

Wynn quit doing free drinks at video poker several years ago.

Aria has been "one drink every 30 min" for over a year or so.

Both ideas are stupid, buy hey, whatev. I just won't go to those places if I'm gonna play video poker.

I've lost many thousands over the years due solely on a combined couple hundred in whiskey. You take that away and I'd still have all that money in my pocket. They're idiots if they limit free alcohol.

Go down to Freemont. You can get plenty of free drinks down there. And it's a lot cheaper than the strip.

The strip has gotten ridiculious.

Had a great experience at the Downtown Grand in August. Great service both on the floor and at the bar. It is set a couple of blocks off of Freemont, so you don't have to walk through the street performers and other trash.

As expected, Caesars is joining in on charging for parking and valet at their strip properties.

We've always enjoyed renting a car and casino hopping to our favorite places, on and off the strip. Looks like we won't be doing much of that anymore. Really don't understand why these places want a bunch of empty multi-million $ parking garages.

You're in Vegas - just do Valet... won't be much more $$$ on your trip. Or do Uber... not much more.

Found this figure:
$8 to $10 a day for self-parking and $13 to $18 for Valet

Sure, it's a bad strategy for customers like you. But the casinos are pretty good at making money, so there's a good chance that they either have lots of "freeloaders" abusing the free alcohol without risking much, or they've found that most people bring $x losable cash to Vegas and leave with empty pockets whether they spent it on drinks or gambling. Probably some combination of both, and enough to outweigh people like you.

But I bet that if you are a real big spender, there are still places you can go where you don't have to worry about paying for drinks.

We didnt have any problems getting drinks a couple of weeks ago as long as we were gambling. I was playing video roulette at the cromwell and the girl sitting next to me put $5 in the machine and was betting $2 (min there) on red and $2 on black everytime and was getting drinks brought to her About as cheap as I've seen it done until green comes up.

It started in the sportsbook and has spread. I don't see why this is a shock. I think with behavior science and all the intense data mining they know where the best profit per foot is.

Sportsbooks when they finally put the pencil to paper found they were losing money so they quit offering drinks. I mean a $110 to win $100 ticket that comes with 6 free beers is net loser for the casino.

Then 6:5 blackjack started, which is basically a huge middle finger to the average gambler. At 3:2 if you just used basic strategy and min bet you could easily tread water for a couple hours and get drinks to kill time. Not anymore.

I think the days of giant casino floors being the profit center are over, it's now all about the hotel and services and shows.

It's definitely this, i've got a buddy who does analytics for a casino in colorado. the amount of data they have is ridiculous and they definitely use.

Add Wynn to list of casinos charging for parking.

They also re-did the sports book and opened one in Encore.

(I don't even know where the parking lot is)
