Searched through archives and surprisingly not a lot about NYC, so...

Headed to NYC in October for 3 nights. Will be my second time there. Did most of the no-brainer stuff last year on my first trip (OWC, Empire, Liberty, Peter Lugars, Broadway/Times Square).

So what do you guys have in the way of great restaurants, bars, and things to do/see?

Thanks!

Grab some drinks at McSorley's Old Ale House.

For breakfast, the wife and I love Buppy's (both in Tribeca and Highline).

If it's a weekend and you want to watch the game, the NYC A&M club hosts a watch party. Look them up online. Went last year when I was in town over a weekend and had a great time.

Did you go to Katz Deli the first time? Its the only restaurant I go to every time I'm in New York.

Will Priceline a hotel the week before. Somewhere Chelsea to the Park.

Never been to Katz's or McSorleys. It's the weekend the ags are off so no ATM club.

Head over to Brooklyn Bridge Park for a great shot of downtown Manhattan.

My wife and I found a Spanish tapas place on 10th ave a few trips back and we hit it every time now. It's called Tia Pol.

Dinner at Kuma Inn.

Hit up Brooklyn Brewery and have a many a pint.

Adopt a another football team for a saturday and go to their watching party. I've never had more fun watching college football (outside of going to games) than when I lived up there. Watch parties for almost any team are a blast. bars are PACKED.

McSorley's is ok to stop in and say you did it, but overall, its ok. When you are done there, walk down the street and drop in standings for a craft beer and more tvs than i've ever seen packed into a tiny space.

Eat at Katz Deli.
Take a Subway that goes through Grand Central Station.
Check out the 135 karat yellow diamond at Tiffany's.
Eat soup at the Soup Nazi's place (near the Ed Sullivan Theater)

Grant's Tomb is highly recommended. Very peaceful area of NYC.

Also, cool place to grab a beer downtown. A lot of history.

The lack of TV's and straight forward beer selection is what's appealing about McSorley's, to me. My BIL and I stopped in and talked with some local guys sitting next to us for a couple of hours while the womenfolk went shopping.

well, standings is a sportsbar, so it kind of has to have tvs. well, i guess it doesn't, but that would be a little strange.

mcsorleys is usually so packed that its not fun for me to hang out in. Only time i like being in a packed bar is for game watching b/c it makes for a more fun atmosphere.

We are heading to NYC middle of December. Wanting to stay close to Central Park, broadway area of town. Any hotels with a great view of city that will not break the bank?

Grab dinner at Ai Fiori in the Langham Place hotel. Michelin star with a great tasting menu. Ai Fiori

The Mark cheeseburger at The Mark hotel on the UES has black truffle dressing and brie and is magnificent. Also a great place to see and be seen with actual NYC residents and few tourists. If the weather is good, their patio is magnificent. The Mark Restaurant

Beecher's Handmande Cheese in the Flatiron is a fun place for drinks and a snack of cheeses. That have a great restaurant called the Cellar which is cheaper than the above-mentioned and has one of the top 5 burgers I've ever eaten. Beecher's and the Cellar

As far as museums, a lot of people hit the biggies and miss two of my favorites. The Frick Collection is really beautiful and in a great setting and Central Park Location. The Morgan Library houses items from J. P. Morgan's personal collection. Awesome old-world stuff.

I'm going over Labor Day weekend and looked at the NY Ag website and didn't see a watch party listed. Anyone know another route to try and figure out where it is at? Thanks.

Go to Keens Chophouse and get either the kings cut of prime rib or the mutton chop.

I always enjoyed tals bagels. I also always enjoyed checking out zabars. They have awesome coffee beans, if that's your thing.

The Staten Island ferry is free, and it goes right past the statue of liberty and the view back towards Manhattan is worth the trip alone.

Last year it was at the Hot Pig all season. Keep checking the website and/or their Twitter. I know it was posted publicly last fall.

The first time I went to NYC, that's what the wife and I did. Not really by choice, but more so because I dumped a **** ton of money on an engagement ring before the trip and tried to find every free alternative to stuff she wanted to do. She was pissed but eventually understood during a stroll through Central Park. I agree, the view back is amazing. I wanted to take it again (day and night) when we were up there this past December, but it was like 29 degrees and my ass wasn't about to get on a ferry with a windchill.

OP, I just started a similar thread on the "Around the Nation" Board so as not to sidetrack this thread (http://texags.com/forums/55/topics/2652009/replies/43783215 ).

We're heading up there in early November and I'd love to learn more about recommended NYC attractions and restaurants as well. The replies to this thread have been very helpful and I will be glad to share anything new I learn from the other thread.

Allow me to clarify my recommendation of Katz Deli.

It was the best hot pastrami on dark rye I ever had.
It was great to be in the same venue were this was filmed:

I think that was filmed at Stage Deli, which sadly closed. Carnegie Deli is amazing too.

It was filmed at Katz. There's a sign in the restaurant showing where they were sitting.

Kat'z deli is greatness. And if the weather is good, it is only a short 10-15 minute walk from McSorelys. We had a pastrami for lunch an then proceeded to drink all afternoon at McSorelys.

I would recommend Smorgasburg. Saturday morning and lunch time.
