One person put an artillery shell in the tube upside down.

Wow, that was loud.

We we're frustrated earlier because the wind was making them hard to light. But we felt blessed after. I'd put a ceramic chimney insert around the tube to block the wind. It absorbed the blast and was left in shards, but thankfully no one was injured.

In 1994 Roman candle battles were all fun and games until our Youth Pastor had one get trapped in his shirt. He said some very unbiblical things in front of our youth group.

I was shooting bottle rockets out of an old glass coke bottle from a gravel driveway with my cousins one year. As I lit the fuse and ran from one, the bottle tipped over and pointed at my cousin waving sparklers in the yard. It missed her by a couple of inches, and it was awesome. She didn't think so, but I still do.

Another time I was throwing the cheap version of black cats. You know, the ones with the squirrelly fuses that either burn long or super fast. As I threw one, it blew up in my hand next to my ear. 2 minutes later, another one did the same thing, and I thought I was going to lose my hearing. Safety tip: wear eye and ear protection if you're going to throw fireworks, because we all know you will.

Older brother and gang shot a bunch of fireworks - me about 10 went to where they had been - picked up what I thought was a fissled firecracker - it went off blasting me in the face - screaming brought neighbors to see what was wrong !

Fortunately, I recovered ( in spite of kinfolks thinking otherwise ) .

Uncle lit a bottle rocket, threw it up in the air, it ignited and went straight up. The second time he did it, it came screaming straight back at us, we jumped out of the way as it went through his open truck window and exploded.

Don't light black cats from the wrong end. Ruined my Emmit Smith jersey when I was 12. Barely got away. Still wake up in cold sweats.

A preloaded mini artillery shell with 6 shells tipped over by the first shell and shot the next 5 shells in 5 random horizontal directions. Everyone was diving for cover. Fortunately no one was hit directly.

We were engaging in a roman candle/bottle rocket fight in a recently harvested corn field. My buddy had decided to carry all of his fireworks in a 3 pocket bird bag. We thought he was genius until half way through the fight he was running away from me and a shot a roman candle directly into the rear pouch of his bird bag.

He was running through the cornfield screaming as roman candles, black cats and bottle rockets were going off in his bird bag. He after a minute or so he got it unbuckled and dropped in the field but kept running around with his shirt and pants on fire.

One of my other buddies blindsided him while shouting "STOP DROP AND ROLL DUMB ASS!" We stomped the fire out and smothered with dirt for good measure. He was pissed but we got him put out. There was no permanent scarring.

Any of the several idiots who wedge the stick of a bottle rocket in their azz and light it.....

I think Steve O did that in one of the Jackass movies....

Me and two other idiots when we were teenagers one time decided to experiment with artillery shells. We had several tubes.

The first one we convinced one of the guys to hold it in the air at an angle so it would shoot at an arch and not straight up. Well....with where he was holding it when the shell went off it blew the stand that the tube was attached to backwards and hit him right in the nuts.

Later on that night we put another artillery shell in a tube, and put the tube upside down on the pavement and lit it. Needless to say that was the last firework for the night....

Between this event and you dropping a wall on me, I'm getting the impression that it's not safe to hang around you without adult supervision.... happy 4th man, hope the family is well.

Just happened. My 6 year old daughter just dropped her Roman candle on the groumd and it shot towards me and went between my foot and the band of my flip flop. I now have about a quarter sized burn hole in the top of my foot and the inside of my flip flop.

Easily San Diego when their fireworks all went off within 30 seconds of pure hell.

Years ago my dad and uncle were setting off fireworks from the "T" portion of a pier on a local lake - the stash of other fireworks were thought to safely be stored on the walkway portion of the pier about 30' from the T - an errant bottle rocket however found its way into the box and all hell broke loose - kids were running for their lives, aunts and uncles were going nuts and my dad, who had a wooden artificial leg jumped (or fell) in the water and his leg tried to float causing the rest of him to sink, he damned near drowned because those of us not running for cover could not get to him because of the box exploding blocking the walkway- we did fish him out when the fireworks did eventually blow themselves out
