John, we don't know either. Mr turner will make adjustments.

Kiper: very sloppy with his technique.

Otherwise they said germain has a huge upside with good coaching.

Gruden is right. The former offensive coaching staff got what they deserved

So why does Sumlin get a free pass on this? He hired those gentlemen.

...and then promptly fired them when they didn't produce. In DC's case, after only one year.

Then hired Jim Turner.

Because keeping members of the former regime is rarely done.Coaching 'families' are very tight knit and loyal.

Another 1st round OL getting paid.

That's what I see.

The OL philosophy with much wider splits is part of the spread. The change in technique towards two-point stance was discussed at length on AggieSports when Sumlin came in. And Christensen was not the first OL coach but WAS a spread adherent (OC under Pinkel prior to HC and then OC stints out west.)

I am interested in how Turner deals with the system and whether technique gets better unless he moderates the splits. It takes raw power to isolate an SEC DE or DT and technique can only do so much which is why the SEC has traditionally been more of a power running conference. Narrower splits make stunts more effective imho. It's about which hole (or hole options) this particular play can open. The idea that a back is fast enough to stand with the ball and pick a hole only works at the high school level. Not in the SEC or the even faster NFL.

... and I thought it was because he became the OL coach on Miami Dolphins team, as well as kept working for his boss from one team to another.

He might very well be right in his assessment, but he is still a blowhard that wants to hear himself talk.

Coaches, players, schemes, etc. Whatever, it's five years into this "program" so figure it out.

Not to mention that Ifedi played guard in highschool, learned guard his redshirt year, played guard his RS Fr year, then moved to RT, but was also trying to learn LT to take over after Ced left. I'm sure none of that had anything to do with lack of technique and I'm sure was aware of that before he popped off in public like that.

I still am glad we got rid of Dave and hired Turned back because we were poorly coached last year, but Ifedi being raw at OT shouldn't be much of a surprise to anyone.

He also brought in BJ who sucked for three years. As far as I'm concerned, Sumlin made bad decisions at the OL spot for four years.

Sumlin doesn't, but he's almost righted the wrong by bringing back the Sherman disciple that recruited all these fine young men who've been drafted in the first round over the last 4 years.

not breaking news...

but the 2 positions where Sherman left his mark so to speak were:

(1) o-line
(2) WR

both have slipped in the past 4 years from a coaching, development, and technique standpoint

To be fair, that conference USA staff won 11 games, produced a Heisman winner and finished in the Top 5, while knocking off the eventual national champion on the road.

Three of those conference USA coaches are now head coaches in D1.

But to the OP's point, Gruden is right you know.

I meant the position coaches - not the head coach, but anyhow when you are writing big checks go hire the best available not an unproven coach.

I was talking about the position coaches...Polian, Beaty and Kliff, or as you referred to them, Conference USA coaches. They are now head coaches. You must be new to Aggie football...welcome!
