They are feeling the heat of being the most expensive cable network.

They should spin off HBO Now style and mop up...

At least they still had Sportscenter from the World Cornhole championships in Knoxville today. I mean seriously ESPN? Was that necessary?

They are down 3.2 million subscribers in roughly one year due to consumers foregoing cable/satellite packages and the costs to license live sporting events continues to rise:

I agree with the above. Just go to allowing ala carte subscribers through Roku/Amazon Fire/Gaming Systems. They would make millions. MLB TV allows that option already.

It won't kill the sling deal. that cat is out of the bag.

It will likely increase the cost though.

I don't watch crap TV or news reporting.
I NEVER, EVER watch the LHN (re-Living Hog s*** News).
Make the sensible an easy cost cutting measure ESPN; drop the LHN & ESPY's. No one gives a good BM about them. They're manufactured for idealistic people who buy their shirts at Wally World.

Olbermann hated anything conservative and his name will be associated with ESPN forever.

Well, we know where they can find an easy $300M to save that no one will give a poop about.

Having the announcers in Bristol to call the games...............I'm not a fan of this although I suppose it can be done in a way to where the viewer might never know it.

Free advice for ESPN---cut out all the phony "debate" shows (Skip Bayless, etc.), eliminate all the corny Jim Valvano-type commercials, focus on real sports and live events.

Unfortunately, getting rid of the LHN will actually increase the sips television exposure.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO....

Any game on sip tv will be seen by 10s of people. They get more visibility on Fox SW.

Without sip tv, some dumb bleep conference commissioner might invite them to join a real conference. I'm happy with them in the BDF.

Hopefully, none. SECN is likely to be a large profit maker for them.

SECN is a big profit maker for them. But if the cable model ever got turned into one where consumers get to pick their channels, I believe the SECN would lose a bunch of value for them. Its primary value is in making everyone pay for it, even the vast majority that do not give a rip about SEC teams.

The article made a good point that I agree with. ESPN was and is trying to run sports instead of report it. I heard Bill Beirne speak one day and he said the ESPN is now running college football. That should not be their mission. They should run their business as a conduit to allows us to watch sports not try to influence it. In a sense they have move away from their core competency.

No, no, no. Keep the LHN. It's the anchor around Bevo's neck that prevents them from going to another conference, keeping the BDF together for a while. What goes on in the BDF and the 40 acres is more entertaining than anything they show on the LHN.
