"I think the perceived bias of the ACC in general, [with] Florida State falling to No. 4 in the rankings and still being undefeated and being [No.] 3 at the end of the season a one-loss ACC team or two-loss ACC team is going to have a hard time breaking that top four," Gruters said. "I think the top ACC team over the next four or five years, we're going to be in that [No.] 5 to 8 category. And we're going to be on the outside looking in."
Gruters then urged Wilcox to encourage the ACC to push for an expansion of the new playoff system - from four to eight teams. He said that was the only way, "to guarantee an ACC team will have a shot at winning the national championship each year."
According to the report, another trustee, Edward Burr, referred to the ACC Network as the "800-pound gorilla" in the room, adding a reminder, to whoever is listening, that FSU made a "big commitment" to the ACC a few years back.
What Burr is referring to is the ACC's Grant of Rights agreement in 2013, which seemingly brought talk of conference realignment to a halt for the league's most prominent football program. Getting all of the schools to buy in on the league's future was a first step to establishing a network, but the earliest projections have been set for 2016 or 2017.
Art Briles disease is apparently contagious. Being undefeated, while looking pretty crappy doing it, isn't as impressive as it once was. And they were exposed in the play-offs.

Expanding the play-offs is a bad idea. For just that reason. Add four more semi-crappy teams because of auto-bids and it becomes unfair to have to play the extra games, just to assuage some widdle feewings.

I will say this, though, if the ACC can't get its act together for a conference network, and soon it will be their own fault when their conference implodes and every one loses a crap ton of money.
