Ben Howland has long ties with Adidas. Think Kenny Payne and Worldwide Wes/Nike type of thing. They were instrumental in his interest in us and our overall ability to hire him. Adidas is probably the highest $$ AAU sponsor in the country. Basketball "scholarships" are most often funneled through AAU programs. Hence how we're now seeing many elite prospects tied to a particular apparel provider long before they ever sign the dotted line.
It caught my interest due to us being an Adidas school. I don't know how much substance exists to these comments, but I've never considered a clothing brand being a key mover for coaches/players.
