Thinking of staying in Memphis and taking the dollar shuttle down for the game.... Anyone have any recommendations?

-drink?
-food?
-fly or drive?

Do I get an A*M blazer or just wear cargos and a Johnny jersey?

I am also interested.

Who did this two years ago? How did you do it then, what would you do again and what would you do differently?

As for apparel, wear whatever you feel comfortable wearing.

Yeah, but don't they have killer BBQ? Like some of the best in the country? Might be worth checking out

Get a 12 jersey and be sure to put Collard on the back so everyone will recognize you and kick you in the azz. Or not.

I've been told that the Ole Miss people would prefer that we don't come there.

If you fly, oxford airport fills quickly. Ramp space is first come... Memphis fun to stay in. Hit Beal St, Central BBQ, etc. Can fly into west memphis or memphis intl. Buy beer, ice and coolers early as last time Texas played in oxford many places in memphis and along the road to oxford were sold out of ice/beer/styro coolers. Be nice to Reb fans. They are good people and just wanna have fun and watch good football. They will invite you into their tent/rv and offer food and drink.

Memphis is a shat hole and is one of most expensive airports to fly into. Book flight now. Stay in Oxford (preferable) or Batesville, Tunica, etc.

Stayed with our Rebel friends in Memphis and let them show us around. Never felt the least bit unsafe. Did a few of the touristy things like the ducks at the Peabody and some barbecue place our friends took us to, yelled at midnight with a bunch of Ags in a park off Beale, and saw a Jerry Lee Lewis impersonator boogie woogie on a piano then light it on fire. Walked around the Grove and the square for a bit on gameday and listened to an arrogant old Ole Miss alum talk about himself for what seemed an eternity (nice old man though), then watched Johnny do his thing and beak all those Ole Miss hearts. After the game we headed back to Memphis and stopped by Graceland Too, which is sadly now closed. A great time was had by all.

Rent a house in Oxford. Order a tailgate from the Tailgate Group. Do not go back to the tailgate after the game. The booze will be gone.

Went there 2 years ago, did not have one single Reb fan welcome us or offer us anything while walking around the Grove. Fortunately happened across a friend who took us back to another tent for a couple of pregame pops. Then went to the stadium and listened as the Ole Miss fans cheered when Johnny got hurt and chanted in unison "F U Johnny, F U Johnny" after he returned. Let's just say I was a little underwhelmed at the "hospitality". Enjoyed Auburn and Tuscaloosa much much more.

The Grove is one of the most overrated events in all of college football. A trip to Oxford used to be fun. But with success their fans have become very arrogant. And the gameday experience was OK when the stadium held 45,000 people, but 65,000 people just overwhelms the city of Oxford and it's gridlock everywhere.

Go if you've never been. But lower your expectations.

The last several posts pretty much sums it up. We had the same experience tailgating and in the stadium. I got the feeling they expected us to be a team they could beat up on when we first joined the SEC and despised the fact that we were beating them the first two years. They were not awful to us but they were definitely not hospitable. Just an opinion.

I've been to numerous games there, and I am a 25 year season ticket holder at Kyle. All of the awards, publications, critics, etc. ,do not have it wrong. It is the best gameday atmosphere in college football. The people are so hospitable and welcoming, it is about the event ,not the outcome of the game. If you go in arrogant and expecting them to think you are cool, or somehow better than they are, or if you are an obnoxious Aggie , you will be treated as such anywhere you go. It is very southern, very Greek, and very Hospitable. Accept the place as it is and they will go out of their way to make you feel Welcome. Stay in Oxford and get there a day early, otherwise you will miss the whole experience.......Outside of the 'Game" itself, we don't hold a candle to their 'Tailgate".........and there are no finer women anywhere on the planet

This sums it up - I was there for a Texas game. Tshirt shops had hotty toddy printed w a longhorn on them. The people were friendly. The horn fans were also were not being obnoxious. There are bad apples everywhere but overall these are good people. Be nice to them and I am sure you will find the favor returned. Otherwise you will have ruined your own trip in which case you should have stayed home.

Beautiful women, yes............best game day atmosphere, no.

I'd say A&M or LSU or Bama for that title.

My point is after living in Tupelo from age 5 to 18, Ole Miss fans are very much different from Aggie fans (or Miss State fans for that matter) if you don't think they're cocky and arrogant (the majority of them are from rich old southern money) you haven't been around SEC football for long. I've have gone to at least 5 SEC games a year since 1975 and I've seen the arrogance year after year. They even hate to admit that Miss State is their main rival, that's why when Miss State fans call them "that school up North" is bugs the sheet out of them.

for parking...park in the Oxford Mall and then walk to the Grove / Stadium. It's about a mile walk, but that's as close as you'll get w/o an on-campus parking pass. If it's a night game...need to arrive by Noon time. Traffic grid lock starts taking over after that
