When discussing different coaches, you often hear that one coach is a defensive guy while another is more of an offensive guy. In general, when these coaches come into a program, the program as a whole reflects that mentality. However, is the idea of having a head coach in college football an outdated idea? For A&M at least, Sumlin gets paid $5,000,000 /year and Snyder/Spavital combine for about $1,000,000/year.

Why not bring in two guys with experience and talent at $2,500,000 a year each and have each focus on all aspects relevant to a single side of the ball? The defensive coach would bring in and manage his own position coaches. He would have full reign in making decisions related to the defensive side of the ball and recruit players that fit his scheme. The offensive coach would do the same for all things related to the offense. For A&M at least, you would have an addition $1,000,000 to bring in better quality position coaches to improve the development and talent of your team.

You need a CEO. At the end of the day you need one final authority to manage the show

Would a competent AD not be able to act as a CEO?

We need serious upgrades at our coordinator and coaching positions.

Are ADs on the field or in the locker room?

The head coach position is more important for college than any other level, thanks to recruiting, fundraising, and spokesman duties.

So you think if Saban was just a DC they would have had so many championships.

Would make great entertainment. Bring back the Kevin Gilbride vs. Buddy Ryan sideline squabbles!!
So now we're talking bout who would kick the **** out of who? Spav vs. Snyder death match right on the field.

I think Saban sets the genearl style of defense he wants to play and brings in the top DCs to run that defense. He also pays his DC $500K more than we pay ours so he can get who he wants.

Why pay them 2.5 a year when you can have two guys do it for 1 mil each? They're called Coordinators.

Sometimes, it's best to leave the thoughts inside your head and not type them out.

Wait op may be on to something. We could scrap the head coaching role and simply get our own gadget that would call what the zoo desired. With all the football knowledge on here we could assuredly never be wrong and already do it for free. We'd of course have this rolled out on the sideline

I like where Shano's heads at..

Lets call up Denzel Washington, and whoever that white guy is and bring em on board..

I mean OPs idea really isn't the worst thing I've ever heard. Sumlins more like a hands on NFL GM anyways.. (Since someone mentioned the fundraising, public speaking, recruiting, and "face of the program")

You always need a CEO or someone in charge. Ever seen **** done by a committee? It usually is underwhelming for a reason.
