Contrast this season to the 2012 team that didn't get a bye due to a hurricane. Tougher schedule with no break and by the end of the season I think that they could have beaten anyone in CFB.
Team had different mindset and attitude and had been developed by a better staff. Add in #2 an it was the perfect storm. Even with previous coach and different QB we win 9 that first season in SEC with good D and best OL in the country and great skill position players. Scores not as big, no Heisman and no flash, but a good season. And with staff continuity likely not on downward spiral of OL regression and terrible defense.
3 or 4 plays away from 9-3 in 2011, and we never quit like a bunch of p*****s. Mistake to trust Tanny more than the run game, but the team was tough and played the right way.
Get back to that 2012 level of commitment, effort, and intensity with this talent and we can be good (though talent will needed at LB).
Major disaster alarms should be going off in Aggie heads watching this OL play and awful defense. LBs don't know how to play, talent notwithstanding, most senior DB constantly blowing coverage, phenom DE in game 8 can't hold outside contain on a zone-read - a play that is he stayed where he was supposed to its a 3 yard gain, not a 40 yard TD.
Sumlin is a better recruiter and a better fit for college and much cooler than Sherman, but Sherman staff >>>>>> Sumlin staff and Sherman likely > Sumlin during the week and with the details.
But glad to have Sumlin though he is getting OJT about his offense in a real football league. Need to be able to run the ball (AB or not) an have the threat of the run for this offense to work, no matter what state of QB is back there. And oh yeah, play some F'ING defense.
