Why does anybody still use passing defense as a stat? Is nearly worthless because it doesn't account for the number of plays defended. Would you rather give up 200 yards on 20 plays defended (10ypa) or 250 on 50 plays defended (5ypa)? Anybody looking at passing defense would say the first is a better defensive performance, which is obviously dumb.

State is #40 in passing efficiency D, which is completely respectable; their secondary isn't nearly as bad as the yards per game stat suggests. They're giving up yards because teams throw a crap load due to the fact that they can't run on that front seven.

This is like sabermetrics 101, guys. Come on.

You just proved why you are a deputy and not the sheriff, there Travis Junior.

The point is that every team that has played MSU pass D, gets more yards and points through the air, than they were averaging before.

They have played crap teams or teams that aren't built to pass and they are still only 40th in pass D efficiency. Even, with a top notch front seven rushing the QB and forcing quick throws.

No matter how you break it down MSU pass D is weak. No matter our performance last week was (which once all said and done was still pretty good) we are still a top 5 passing team.

I wont predict a win or a loss. But I don't need saber-metrics or some obscure stat to make my point that we will roll up passing yards and TD's. All I need is common sense.

Try some common sense on for size and maybe you can move up in the world "deputy" dog.

40 in pass efficiency D is not weak. It just isn't.

Miss St does not have an amazing secondary, but it isn't one of the worst in the country (or even close) as suggested by the pass D stat. It's very respectable.

USB torched State. No arguing that. But that's the only team that's had a good day passing against state, which should make you wonder if they just had a bad day.

Southern Miss had an awful day passing. 5ypa, <50% completion, 2 picks

South Alabama had an awful day passing. 5.2ypa, 50% completion, 2 picks

LSU had a bad day passing. 6ypa, 50% completion for the starter. The backup piled up some nice stats in the last few minutes but the game seemed to be over at that point.

You can look at pass defense, but that doesn't show that they've given up 5-6ypa and a 50% completion rate in 3 of 4 games (that's not just solid, it's really damn good pass defense btw. If you hold teams to those numbers regularly, you're going to win a lot of games, barring horrible rush D).

Cliff notes: you're a moron, state isn't weak, passing defense is a crappy stat

None of those teams has remotely the pass offense that A&M has.

A couple penalties, a couple dropped passes and what happens to this offense?

The Ags sucked at times and still came back to win.

On the other hand, a running team, Arkansas, simply drops a snap causing the down to be 2nd and 12 and they were toast for that series. If the Aggies got stuck with 2nd and 12 (at the 30) their offense still has a decent chance to make the 12 yards.

This last game was a classic example of how a good passing team can climb out of a hole better than a good running team.
