We've used Adidas since they became the sponsor. It was Nike before that. I'm pretty sure we haven't used Wilson balls since the helmets were all made by Bike and there was carpet at Kyle.

I think I'd change the brand names out every couple of weeks or so. I don't want my guys getting it into their heads that they play better with a certain type of ball. The message would be, eff the ball, just play.

Equipment lesson here. We used Adidas back in the 60's. At that time there were two quality shoe companies at the time Adidas and Puma. These companies were started by brothers. Rudolph and Adolf Dassler from Germany. Adi Dassler is where Adidas comes from and Rudy started Puma. Since we have seen Phil Knight and Nike, New Balance Under Armour and many more. Nike is the real deal but the others are cultural. Adidas has always been a quality company and if they have enough money we will take it.

At least they are proper football brown instead of those basketball orange ones we used to play with.

I know, KW, that was weird. I first noticed that when Jerrod was slinging 'em around. Weird orange color. Looked like an oblong pumpkin.

I pulled up this thread just to let those that don't know: the Adidas footballs (that the team NOW uses; can't speak for any year in the past) are made by a company in Dallas that also makes Adidas and Nike footballs for other college programs. The Nike balls look and feel differently than the Adidas balls. I met and spoke with some higher ups in the company recently and plan to go on a tour of their facility soon.

The one question I did not ask was whether they also make the Nike balls you can buy at Academy and other places. My guess is no, but I'm not sure. Anyway, they delivered some 300 footballs to A&M recently and they will be used in practice and games.

We used Adidas footballs last year. As far as the Dallas company mentioned, you can buy a hand made game ball directly from them. I bought one last year, as well as a custom commemorative ball for the birth of my son after we BTHO SMU
