How long do you want to ignore this user?
I came across this design for a PVC truck bed bike rack that I've been using for a couple years to haul Mrs. W8liftr and my bikes as well as the little w8liftr herd's bikes. It works well, includes cut length and materials list, and I thought the H&F board might like it.

Edit to add that the plans are FREE.

I use three bike hitch things (where you take the front wheel off and attach it via skewer) mounted on a 2x4 cut to length to rest in the notch on the side of the bed.

No way I would hook a bike worth any real money to PVC secured with bungee cords. Get in a fender bender and that good bye bike. But for some cheapos that looks like a good and lightweight option.

Use cargo tie down straps to secure bikes in truck bed to fender bender proof the PVC rack setup= problem solved.

Wrong smileyface icon. Can't edit this unfortunately.

Buy a 1X6. Cut it so that it fits snugly in to your truck bed, and will not move around. Attach mounts to board.
Done.

I bought two rail mount fork racks for my Taco. About a hundred bucks and 15 minutes to install. For that, building a PVC or other design DIY wasn't worth the effort.

I did the same thing... In 1998. I still use it weekly. I've also built one of the PVC racks for my garage. It works, but is frankly a bit sloppy for my tastes. It would probably be better with a bungee for stabilization, but I don't want to have to do that in my garage.

I did it in 1998 too. A guy I used to ride with at A&M had one is his truck. We both had Trek 6000s too.

May have to build one of those for the garage.

I did this, but used a 2x6.

Also bought two wheel mounts so that they would be secure as well.

Mine does double duty in the garage to keep the little w8liftr herd's mountain bikes from cluttering up the garage gym.

Plus you don't have to constantly detach/reattach your bike's front wheel to use it.
