Back in 2004 I was driving a 2000 3/4 Chevy. Got whacked hard from behind. I had crawled through a green light in traffic. HVAC repair van behind me (I guess) looked up, saw green, then punched it, only to realize we were all stopped on the other side. I didn't have my foot on either pedal at the time. He smacked me, I slammed the brakes, hit the Ford Explorer in front of me, who in turn hit the next car.
When all was said and done, my hitch was angled down and just a few inches off the ground. My truck bed was shaped like the grassy knoll, there were dents in the back of the cab from the bed hitting it, there was a dent in the center of the hood from the rear wiper on the explorer, and you could see the outline of the frame through my front bumper. Front bumper smacked the rear liftgate on the explorer, his radio flew out of his dash, and there was minor damage to his front and the rear of the next vehicle.
Ambulance showed up, hauled my grandmother away for evaluation, and the trooper cited the HVAC Van driver for failure to control speed and listed him 100% at fault. I knew my truck was totaled, but to my surprise the Chevy dealership USAA told me to take it to said they could fix it and would have a lifetime frame warranty. I sold the truck in 2011 with about 185,000 problem free (related to that wreck) miles.
That receiver is now in the back of my Dodge.
