On a 2008, its very easy to swap.

Its 2nd on my list of things to do after the V10 to Diesel swap.

Why?

What about all the thousands of used trucks that have a 6 speed and 4wd...go buy one of those...find a lwb 6 speed V10, they made tons of them.

And best of all, they are DIRT cheap.

Or even better, go buy a '77 F250 high-boy with a 460 and 4x4...or even better, throw a 2 valve Cummins in one

Their numbering system is the number of cylinders, and the # of Cubic Inches per cylinder.

I.e. 6-71 (six cylinders, 71 CI per Cylinder), 8V92 (8 cyl, V Conviguration, 92 CI per cylinder)

A "T" On the end will signify Turbo.

They are also 2 cycle diesels with roots style blowers instead of turbos...that's what that thing on the side of the block is...the blower.

They "scream" because they run at higher rpms than normal diesels and produce most of their torque up high as well...they all have a very distinctive sound...and trail of oil...and black smoke

The blower on this 6V71 is what hot rodders/drag racers started putting on gasoline engines back in the day...and the blower design remains pretty much the same today!

All had blowers, some had turbos that fed into the blower.

Had a few 6V71's back in my farming days. Went through a rebuild on one. My understanding was that the blowers were more to purge exhuast than boost intake pressures, although, I am no diesel guru. But the way a 2 stroke works, it makes sense.

And yes, lots of smoke and oil...Nothin like the sound of a Screamin Jimmy though.

If you hang a picture of a 6V71 on a wall...you still need to place a catch pan under it to catch all the oil drippings...

because it is easier to convert 4x2 to 4x4 than it is to convert automatic to manual

I'm sure you'll be able to buy a Ranger with a stick for as long as they make the Ranger...

I know for sure 3/4 & 1 tons (all the way to F550 for ford...after that you get to choose powertrain since the engine options change)

I believe 1/2 tons will fit this, too, but I'm not sure

1/4 ton trucks will keep getting whatever is available in the cars that are built alongside them...

The Duramax only gets the Allison (I don't think any Duramax got a stick from GM) and the gassers get a 6 speed auto.

The new Ford Diesel only gets the TorqShift6 and I believe the gassers get the same...

Ram might still have an optional 5-speed behind their diesels, but good luck finding one... it'd be tough even if they were any good.

I converted my f150 to stick. It was a dumb idea. I hate driving my 5 speed rover. Your not in high school trying to impress 16 year olds, whats wrong with automatics?
