Will be in Alpine on Friday 10/9

Any recommendations for dinner and a drink or three?

Thanks in advance

Railroad Blues and Saddle Club pop up on search engines

are they good places? Any others?

Railroad blues is a blast.

Food wise, hard to beat the Reata.

Unfortunately there is no band playing Friday at RR Blues, but we may stop by anyway

Reata sounds good

Reata has a good steak.... I like the Holland Hotel as well for a bar and food is better than decent.

But, drive to Marathon and the Gage blows all of that away.

Reata for food definitely. RRBlues is a fun roadhouse type bar, saddle club is a little nicer and quieter, and has solid burgers and loaded fries if you can't get into Reata for some reason. Holland Hotel is nice for a few drinks and a nice back patio. Foods good but for the price I like Reata better

Also start off with a tour of big bend brewing for a few early beers, I think tours are at 2 and 3 but you can just hang out and drink if you don't want the tour

In Marathon, The Gage restaurant and the bar food in the white buffalo bar is really good, really pricey. We do the White Buffalo occasionally for a change of pace.

White Buffalo Bar is not near as expensive as the restaurant. Love that place.

Forgot about this thread. Thanks for all the suggestions

Hot Dog truck in Alpine was closed. We were extremely bummed

Went to Guzzi Up for lunch. Decent food, and we had one of each of the Big Bend Brewery offerings

Drove over to Marfa, and unwittingly stumbled into Chinati Fest Weekend. If you went to Austin that weekend and wondered where all the artsy fartsy hipsters were, they were in Marfa.

Went to Railroad Blues. Great little bar. Watched baseball and drank more Big Bend Brewery stuff

Overnighted at Big Bend, camped on the SE Rim. If youve never done that, check it off your bucket list before you're too old.. spectacular hiking trip...can't overstate it...

Dinner at the El Dorado in Terlingua after we left the park. Beef Enchiladas with a red sauce that is to die for. Bride had chicken enchiladas with Verde sauce, equally good. Pickers on the back porch.... food and service were fantastic. Of course, Big Bend brewery dominated the beer selection... more on that later...

Crashed at the Holland in Alpine. Can't say enough about it. Ornate common area, comfortable rooms, right in the middle of town.... shot the bull with the front staff... can't wait to get back

It's paradise out there... loved every second

Big Bend Brewery.... meh. Pilsner is good, rest is ok..part of the experience though... can't pass it up.. like it or not, that's what you get out there. I'll say this --- fresh off the south rim on a hot October day, Big Bend Brewery on tap is nectar of the Gods at the Chisos Lodge!!!

Will get back out there ASAP!!!
