A story in Thursday's San Antonio Express-News said the ownership group of the San Antonio Missions AA baseball club, a Texas League franchise, is expected to announce its intention to bring a AAA baseball franchise to a future San Antonio stadium at a city council meeting there next week.

The Express-News reported, "multiple sources confirmed that the deal would include moving the Double-A San Antonio Mission franchise, a farm team of the San Diego Padres, to another city, possibly Amarillo."

Very interesting read... When I was a youngster circa 1950, I used to peddle cokes in and about the fans at Amarillo Gold Sox games. Then the Gold Sox were a Yankees farm team that hosted many subsequent all stars on the NY Yankees ball club.

I'm pretty meh on the new stadium unless they could guarantee a club team. Reading the article doesn't make me think it is close to a guarantee. Downtown is going to look completely different in the next few years and I really do hope it's successful. We shall see.

I haven't been to a baseball game in Amarillo in about 20 years. But if they get a major league affiliated team we will go to some games.

So, they are at it again even thought the last bid to put a baseball stadium downtown failed.
