Wife and I have been house hunting and found one we really like in Oak Forest Village, very near the little driving range that is right there. Before we move forward, how is this neighborhood? Between one of my coworkers and a quasi racist FIL, we're little hesitant even though it seems like a nice neighborhood athat first impression.

Nice, quite neighborhood that's on the rise as OF boom moves west.

However, be careful as Antoine and it's rowdy Canadians are mighty close. That's really the only downside is the proximity to Antoine and the shenanigans that go on along that stretch.

Love that Acorn driving range though

I'd cruise your target street in the evening and maybe on Saturday with your windows cracked to get a feel for the block. And of course, the house behind it.

290 commute and public schools are the biggest factors to consider.

where is Oak Forest Village? Are you just talking about the part of the neighborhood in 77092?

Looks like its a little townhome type subdivision around a detention pond between sections of Oak Forest at Mangum and Acorn (so I guess its on the right side of the tracks, but still wrong side of the bayou)

Not sure that's where I would look for a townhome.

Whats the price point? Are they more or less expensive than the surrounding homes? If these are like $300k houses, seems like youd be much better off buying something on a lot in the nearby subdivision even if its older, or a townhome in a similar style on the fringes of a (currently) nicer neighborhood (Timbergrove, Garden Oaks, Shady Acres, etc)
