That term is reserved mostly for cross fitters, people who move to Houston from the far burbs and the lgbtqhqt community.

Just curious, what is it supposed to be called? The second townhomes went in and gentrification took off it got that name. That was sometime around 2005 or so.

And if you feel so inclined to call it something... it's just East Downtown

It was the old Chinatown/Eastwood section from what I remember growing up.

As much as i hate how the yuppies changed it too, its already on maps. Looks like its here to stay.

I heard someone say "The East End" the other day... is that another name for Eado? Or is it a different place? If its a different place and a newly named one I assume its a terrible Shooty McShank hood and I dont wanna be there

I just call it "Victim." Guy I work with bought a townhouse there about 8 months ago and has already been broken into twice.

Yeah I've always considered the East End out over near 610/225 around Harrisburg, Navigation, and Broadway.

And yes. It is very Shooty Mcshankish hood and cancer/birth defects are rampant.

East end is all of that area east of downtown all the way to 610. It's not a new name.

The East End is the south side of buffalo bayou all the way out to the loop pretty much. Everything along and in the areas of Harrisburg and Navigation.

Houston has a West End too, which is basically the Washington Ave corridor, but now only a portion of that is called the West End where there is a neighborhood area that has picked up that name.

I also hate people who refer to the east side of downtown Houston as the former name for Tokyo.

On that link, the area being discussed as "eado" is called "downtown"

Right...its the eastern part of downtown....

The East End is comprised of somewhere between 2 and 6 of those super neighborhoods depending on how you want to define it. Definitely 63 and 82, and probably 64, 65, 88, and 70.

Isn't downtown considered the business center of a city?

If so how is the area in question considered downtown?

I hate these names. The guys at South Park caught on to the trend and made an entire episode about the gentrification, renovation and renaming of sh**ty parts of town- The episode is called "The City Part of Town".

The SoDeSoPa name is pretty funny.

In the past, the East End was a generic name that included 2nd Ward, Denver Harbor, Eastwood.

The irony about these yuppies wanting to change it, is that the neighborhood is one of the few ones that line up with the trendiness they crave so much to have. The East End was essentially our equivalent to East Harlem. 2nd Ward/Denver Harbor was our version of it.
