I have a coworker that wants to take her car in to have her first brake pad change.

I've never owned Mercedes.. and I've always done my own brakes (Ford, Toyota, Nissan).

any recommendations on a decent place that won't rip her off in Houston -- near the Heights?

Star Motor Cars.
I take the wife's MB there. They are consistently cheaper than import shops and you can get a free rental.

She could try Uzis Autohaus on bellaire inside the loop behind muellers bakery. Took my 2002 there after the "free" service period ended.

For all euro cars, you can't beat Sylvio's Autohaus down in midtown. Most honest and prompt shop I have ever dealt with. Highly recommended.

+1 for Sylvio's Autohaus; great service when I had my car. The owner is actually German too.
