I used Dr. Palumbo from ths same clinic posted by CDUB. He repaired my hand and also performed shoulder surgery for my uncle. Results were great.

Dr. McCulloch at Methodist. He's done my knee and will most likely being doing, whatever needs to be done, to my shoulder.

Another vote for http://www.orthopedicsports.com/.

Polumbo repaired a torn distal biceps tendon for me in 2011 and Badlani did my C5-C6 disc repair/fusion last December. I've since given up many 'extreme' activities, but not all.

Steven Flores did mine - he's also on the sidelines at many Texans games.

So, I'll say this. I don't like to talk down against any orthopods. I work with all of these guys on a daily basis. All I'll say is this...not all docs are created equal.

Thomas Parr MD repaired my shoulder in 1997. My shoulder dislocated on a regular basis , he performed a Bankart procedure (invasive surgery). I have had zero problems with my shoulder since.

PRP same as cortisone?

Got second opinion...he gave cortisone/PT, then reassess after about 3 months.

Was quite dismayed to hear that first ortho jumped straight to surgery.

I know very little about PRP injections but I do know that a lot of MMA fighters do it to get over joint injuries. Its used for face lifts and other non sports things as well.

Its supposed to be a miracle in a needle. But again I know very little.

PRP has been around for a while now. The idea was to spin down a patient's blood (in a centrifuge) to separate the fat and "extras" and the good stuff in your blood "plasma, growth factors, etc" then reinject the goods back into the desired location with the thought that it could help whatever ailment you suffer from.

There is little to no scientific data that shows what exactly PRP does. Do the patients get better from the injection, or do they get better from the rest that is prescribed with the injection. Is there a placebo factor from the injection? And on and on...

Newer variations of injections that potentially incorporate stem cells or bone marrow aspirations are starting to become more and more common (a la PRP in 2007ish).

Bottom line is, I would go to a surgeon that exhausts all options before recommending surgery. If surgery is the first recommendation (unless it's an obvious injury like ACL etc) then I would seek another opinion. Sounds like you guys have figured this out already though.
