We like going to HH at Eurasia at Wirt and Westview but we aren't sushi snobs so not sure how it rates compare to others.

I would agree that the best places are probably: Izakaya Wa and Sushi Jen. We go to Sushi Aka on Eldridge ever once in awhile.

Might be too far east but we really like Teppay at Westheimer and Voss.

Pricey but perhaps some of the best sushi in Houston. I've never been to Uchi but I can't imagine it's a whole lot better.

Eurasia also solid suggestion. Good spot at a reasonable price.

Uchi is on a whole nother level, nothing compares IMO

I absolutely love uchi and it is one of if not my favorite restaurant in Houston but don't know if I'd say nothing compares. Also love kata robata.

Also, if you're in Vegas or LA (and I think a couple other places) check out Nobu. It is absolutely on another level even from uchi.

That's why I said in my opinion. Also talking about in Houston. I've been to Nobu and SUSHISAMBA in NYC and was underwhelmed considering the hype both receive. Did see some celebrities at both places so maybe that's part of the draw.

Interested in your opinion of Kuu if you ever find yourself there. From what I've read, it's a real contender for Uchi.

Chef at Kuu worked at several Nobu locations for years. Most of the dishes are take offs of classic dishes from Nobu.

I get doordash from there a lot. I like their sushi a lot.

The 1st time I went to Kuu I was meh on it. I went a 2nd time and really enjoyed it.

RA is terrible.

I eat at KUU and UChi frequently. Although KUU may lack some of he creativity the sushi is similar grade and dishes are very clean. I personally think KUU has better rolls than Uchi (fully aware Uchi isn't a roll place)

Sushi Miyagi on Bellaire near Wilcrest

Would check on when they are open before going out there. Weird hours.

Matsu Sushi on Eldridge is a fantastic find. It's on the south side of I-10, but it is west.

A wise Japanese colleague once told me:

k2-san:
There is no Tex Mex outside of Texas.
There is no Sushi outside of Japan.

(He's right).

Koto on Westheimer just outside of BW8 definitely deserves a visit. It's not as flashy as places like Kuu or Ra, but it's some of the best "cheap" sushi I've found anywhere.

do most houston sushi places source their fish from the same place?

This is right in line with what I've read. I've been to Kuu many times now but still never Uchi. I'll have to try it one day.

Totally agree on Ra. Went once and will not be back. It was very underwhelming for what it cost.

The lame ones do. I know Kuu gets deliveries a couple of times a week from Tsukiji though. They even have a Tsukiji section on the menu for the freshest fish.
