Looking to possibly put an offer on a house that the fault clips the back right corner of the detached garage. It goes right through the next door neighbors house. We would tear down the garage and build a new one. The house is a one owner home and solid as a rock. The garage is 60+ years old and never been touched and looks pretty good considering the back right of it is on a fault. I need as much information on this fault line as possible so any information is helpful. Thanks.

Do a google search for Dr Khan Houston faults. He is a prof at UH that has done a pretty recent bit of study mapping various Houston area faults. I suspect if you called him, he would be the very best source of information you could get about the local fault movements. The short answer is that the faults around here are always moving, albeit very slowly, so if you build across one you will have to account for that movement over time. Knowing the general rate it is moving can help you adequately design to account for the movement.

It started out at 565,000 and had an offer but they pulled out (it's a complete reno job and they were already at the top of their budget). Now it is at 450,000. It's in the Rummel Creek area so other homes go anywhere from 565,000-1.5 million.
