My go-to taco joint near the Galleria, Tacos del Julio, closed unexpectedly. I'm trying to think of other places in the vicinity but coming up blank. I guess it serves me right for not branching out from the place but I need a place close to the office for my fix of meat of indeterminate origin grilled with loving Mexican care and placed on homemade tortillas with homemade salsa.

I know. I just mentioned grabbing lunch there today with a coworker (been about 3 weeks since I'd been there) and he said it closed.

A couple locations in ghettoey areas around town. Steak and onion taquito platter is legit. Salsas are good too.

does not meet your location requirements, but for those on the west side Mas Tacos at Dairy Ashford just south of I-10 is very solid.

No this one was at Westheimer & Fountain View.

Good recs, I'll have to start making the rounds. Bummed about this Del Julio since it's 3 minutes from my office.

I think so. The Galleria is arguably the most uppity, well off areas in the city. Shady, barrio type taco joints are few and far between in that part of town.

You're likely to find a spot or six long before you get to Gessner.

Care to share what tacos you had there? Breakfast tacos were severely lacking in my opinion, and only had 2 or 3 others from there. I personally think the Jarro Cafe (Trailer behind Scholtzsky's) has better tacos.

Not in the galleria but closeby on memorial, sunrise taquitos. I love their breakfast tacos, and their barbacoa is some of the best Ive had in Houston. I'd put their tacos up against anybody.

This. Try spring branch or the east end, along with shady latino parts off 45 s.

Yeah, that's exactly my issue. I work in the one part of town without one of those joints every couple hundred yards.

Not to detract... but Sunrise is no where near the galleria
